Meet Linda. The YMCA helped open doors of opportunity for her, awarding her with a scholarship which made it possible for her to attend college– because of this, she met her husband, Marvin. After Marvin’s passing in 2024, Linda reflected on how much that scholarship had shaped her life: her education, her marriage, her career, and the life she built. Today, Linda is ensuring that the doors of opportunity remain open for others. She has made provisions in her will to support youth programs at the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh.

“We wanted to make sure that anybody who wanted to be part of the Y could be part of the Y.”

Amy Kienle, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh, sat down with Bill Flanagan of WPXI to discuss the renovation of the Allegheny YMCA on Pittsburgh’s North Side. “Accessibility was the number one issue we wanted to address,” she states, emphasizing her wish for the 100-year-old building to continue serving the community for “another hundred years.”

Kienle also outlines how the renovation addresses the community's health and wellness, youth development, and housing needs. With two elevators, all new mechanicals, air conditioning, new exercise equipment, updated spaces, family-friendly programs, and a new childcare program opening in the fall, the renovation has breathed new life into the historic building and community.

We were proud to bring our GRACE work to the game last night! ⚾💙

GRACE (Global Relations and Community Engagement) reflects our commitment to building stronger, more connected communities where everyone feels welcome, valued and a true sense of belonging.

Representing the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh on the field were President and CEO Amy Kienle, Chief Financial Officer Jordan Frazier, Chief Experience Officer Greg Supianoski, Chief People Officer Shannon Vargesko, Chief Development Officer Carolyn Grady and Board Member Greg Baker.

Thank you to the Pirates for helping us celebrate this important work and the power of bringing people together; because at the Y, everyone has a place.

The Y. For All.

Thank you! 💙 Because of your generosity, our Chain of Impact grew link by link throughout Critical Needs Alert.

Together, we raised $82,857, unlocking significant matching funds through The Pittsburgh Foundation!
Every link represents someone choosing to help a child build confidence, support a family in need, create a welcoming place for older adults, or ensure everyone has the opportunity to belong at the YMCA.

Whether you made a gift, colored a link, shared our campaign, or cheered us on, thank you for helping strengthen our YMCA and expand access to programs that make our community healthier, more connected, and more hopeful.

Your generosity will continue changing lives throughout our community in the weeks and months ahead. Click the link to see your impact in action! Together, we are building a stronger community.

We’re halfway through Critical Needs Alert Day, and the response has been incredible! 💙

Together, we’ve raised $56,931 so far - but we know our community has the power to do even more.
Every donation adds another link to our Chain of Impact, helping provide children, families and neighbors with access to vital YMCA programs, resources and opportunities.

Matching funds are still available through The Pittsburgh Foundation, so your gift can make an even greater impact - but only until tonight!
