🎉 Ring in the New Year — Safely 🎉

As you celebrate, your Penn Hills Paramedics will be on duty, ready to respond if needed. Help us keep everyone safe by remembering a few simple tips:

🥂 Drink responsibly — and always have a sober ride home
🚗 Slow down — impaired driving puts lives at risk
🎆 Leave fireworks to the professionals
🧥 Bundle up — cold temps and alcohol don’t mix well

Let’s start the New Year with fewer sirens and more celebrations that end safely at home.

From all of us in EMS — have a safe, healthy, and Happy New Year.

Three years ago today, we lost our brother and friend, Paramedic Nick Theofilis. His absence is felt every day, and his memory will never fade. This year, his anniversary falls on Thanksgiving—a day meant for reflection and gratitude.

We are deeply thankful for the privilege of serving alongside Nick, standing beside him as he dedicated himself to protecting the people of this community. He gave everything in that service.

As you gather with loved ones today, we invite you to pause with us and honor his memory.

Wishing you a safe and blessed Thanksgiving, Penn Hills. If you need us, we’re here.

👉 Paramedic David Marc Sullins
đź“… Born in Queens, NY
📝 Once a used car salesman, David found his true calling as a paramedic after enrolling in night school at Queensborough Community College. Known for his humor and compassion, he often carried Matchbox cars and Barbie dolls in his trauma bag to comfort children. He loved nothing more than spending time with his wife Evelyn and their two young sons, Julian and Christian.
🚑 On 9/11, David’s ambulance sped from Cabrini Medical Center to the World Trade Center. He made multiple trips transporting the injured to hospitals before re-entering the South Tower, where he was tragically lost when it collapsed.

Their courage, compassion, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Remembering the Heroes of Flight 93

On September 11, 2001, United Airlines Flight 93 was hijacked on its way to Washington, D.C. The passengers and crew made an extraordinary choice—they fought back against the hijackers, preventing the plane from reaching its intended target and saving countless lives. Their courage and selflessness came at the ultimate cost.

Here in Pittsburgh, we remember that Flight 93 crashed in Somerset County, just a short drive from our city. The heroism of those aboard is part of our community’s story, and it reminds us of the sacrifices made by so many that day—including the EMS, fire, and law enforcement personnel who ran toward danger.

🕯️ September 11, 2001 🕯️

On this day, we remember the 343 firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers, 55 military personnel, and 8 paramedics who made the ultimate sacrifice while helping others escape to safety.

Today, we remember every life lost, honor the courage of those who ran toward danger, and reflect on the sacrifices made for the safety of others. They showed us the true meaning of service and sacrifice.

We are one. We must never forget.
