Yesterday, ACLC President John Galuska was invited to address USW members in town for election training.

It was an inspiring event in front of a fired up crowd! In fact, the team will be knocking doors tomorrow!

Led by USW President Roxanne Brown, we heard from pro-worker candidates like Lt Gov Austin Davis, Congressman Chris Deluzio, State Senator Lindsey Williams and Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato. Also joined by Maurice Cobb from PA AFL-CIO.

2026 is already proving to be a pivotal election year.

Today Allegheny-Fayette County Labor Council President John Galuska joined striking members of Teamsters Local 249 as they commenced an Unfair Labor Practice strike at Heidelberg Materials.

The industrial site is on 2220 2nd Avenue, Downtown Pittsburgh.

Please make every effort to stand with them as they continue to fight for fair wages and benefits.

If you are able to bring any refreshments, that would be greatly appreciated.

A message from ACLC President John Galuska: "It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of John Vento this week. John was a mentor to so many of us in the labor movement and he had a profound impact for working families in our community.

Next time you are near Acrisure Stadium, be sure to look for the World War II Veterans Monument in the park across the street. John Vento was the driving force behind this display that honors our heroes in battle.

For so many of us in Pittsburgh and in Pennsylvania, John was one of our heroes. He will be missed greatly, but today we honor his legacy."

On Workers’ Memorial Day, hundreds of union members and friends gathered with us at United Steelworkers HQ to honor our brothers and sisters who were killed and injured on the job.

We remember the dead, and we fight like hell for the living.

Our President John Galuska’s statement on news that the new Pittsburgh Post-Gazette owners will recognize their employees’ union:

“Our Labor Council appreciates that the new owners of the Post-Gazette have made it clear that they will recognize their employees’ union. There are still plenty of questions about how this transition will work and potential job cuts, among other things. But this is an important sign that the new owners at the very least recognize the importance of unions to this paper and this city, and intend to treat their employees with the respect they deserve — and that alone is a welcome change from the Blocks. We look forward to good faith conversations and negotiations between Venetoulis and our brothers and sisters at the Post-Gazette, and we remain hopeful that the new owners will be real partners and real members of this community going forward.”

The new owners of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette plan to recognize the paper’s labor union, officials from the Maryland-based nonprofit Venetoulis Institute for Local Journalism confirmed.

Thanks to all the ACLC affiliates and members who generously supported our AFGE brothers and sisters working for TSA.

President John Galuska is presenting AFGE Representative Lilas Soukup with over $10,000 in donations.

The TSA workers have only received partial paychecks, so the need is still urgent to help them after the devastating government shutdown.

Our President John Galuska’s statement on the sale of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

“The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is one of the oldest newspapers in America, and our Labor Council is glad that it will remain a part of this community. We will not miss the Blocks, but losing the Post-Gazette would have been devastating for this entire community, as well as for the men and women who work there. Post-Gazette employees have proven that they know how to produce and deliver a world-class newspaper, and we hope that the new owners will treat them with the fairness and respect that they deserve. We’re excited to welcome the new owners to Pittsburgh, we look forward to working together, and we hope that they will become a real, lasting part of this proud Pittsburgh community.”
