Last night at the Southwestern Veterans Center, was the highly anticipated putting competition, which teams are putting for the coveted trophy’s.

We started off with a pizza party sponsored by Stella, the official mascot of ALA Unit 980 (she ate more than the Vets).

We were so happy to see Don back from the hospital, (he is the amazing artist) and while he wasn’t able to golf, he did enjoy the pizza. Continue to keep him in your prayers. It was a wonderful evening, the laughter rang out of the room, we had some stragglers wander by to see what was going on and they joined in for the pizza.

The ALA Unit 980 & SAL Squad 980 thanks our members Patty Churilla & Terry Churilla for their tireless support & love of our vetetans at Southwestern. We know that these vets appreciate them as much as we do.

One of our long time golfers passed from Southwestern Vetrans Center, James "Jim" Morris, February 20, 1952-March 14 2026. He served in the United States Navey during the Vietnam War. We will miss Jim who never missed a golf date and ] lucky to be included in some of the outings to the American Legion Post #980 Plum Boro, PA.

The loss is tough after getting to know him for all the years we have been volunteering…you become invested in these amazing veterans.

On a lighter note, Becky just loves her hats, so she was proud as a peacock showing off her beret Stella presented her with on her birthday. We have to include Doris also who looks forward to her kisses from Stella.

United We Stand, We are An American Legion Family

Comrades,
It's time to take stock and put to rest the flurry of rumors and innuendo that has been circulating through the Post over the last few weeks.
I will address what I know is true and avoid the negative narrative that has divided so many individuals.
First of all, SAL Squadron 980 is and will remain a great part of Post 980. All of our planned events are moving forward for the good of the Post, our Veterans, the SAL and the community. I trust that all our SAL membership will get over any angst that is felt over sudden changes in staff. We will surely miss our friends but must move forward to maintain our mission.
Please understand that the SAL serves at the pleasure of the Home Post 980 Executive Board Committee. The Board has final say in all Post operations. That being said, the incidents that has precipitated the situation we all now face may not have been dealt with by proper parliamentary procedures. This didn't occur through malice but, was a failure of understanding the effect quick decisions would have on the membership at large. We are all getting an education due to mitigating circumstances. At this point, all Legion Family Officials will be talking through our options that will repair the emotional rift that began to separate us. The problems and arguments that have been happening can and will be resolved hopefully to the satisfaction of all our Family members.
Post Commander Paul Marcum and Jim Lovely met as individuals to develop a reconciliation plan so we may all move forward. The meeting was cordial and productive. It's necessary that all of us try to keep our emotions in check and understand that our relationships need to return to some semblance of normalcy.
All of us have opinions but few of us are aware of all the facts. I ask everyone in the Legion Family to refrain from the negative narrative that has divided us. This Post has an excellent reputation in the community. We have spent many years building a foundation "to foster and perpetuate a true spirit of Americanism". Let us remember that goal and take pride in representing the SAL. It is our duty to uphold our mission.
Remember always "Service not Self".

Regards

John R. Fox
SAL 33rd District Commander

On behalf of the Sons of the American Legion, thank you to all who supported the SAL Golf Outing.
We reached our goal as a fundraiser and can now help many of our veterans and the community with the funds raised.

A big thank you to all the local businesses that donated prizes, thank you to all the volunteers that donated their time, thank you to those wonderful bakers who stepped up and provided us with the fabulous cookies and desserts that all enjoyed and thank you to the golfers who supported us by purchasing tickets.

Hope everyone involved had a great day. We know that our SWVC veterans had a great outing.
We are all an American Legion Family and we couldn't do it without your help and support.
We look forward to your help and support in our next fundraiser "Night at the Races". Look for more details coming on this very fun and exciting event in the near future.

This is a big one folks, we will be looking for member volunteers to help at this fundraiser, along with details coming soon, there will be a sign up sheet posted at the bar for volunteers. If you can donate a little of your time to help and support your Home Post 980, it is greatly appreciated.
