Thank you to all who attended, supported and volunteered at the ALA Unit 980 Bingo Luncheon Fundraiser held at the American Legion Post 980 in Plum this past Sunday.

The American Legion Auxiliary will be taking a short break from our Bingo Luncheon Fundraiser, please join us again when we start up in October.

Your support helps us to help our military & theirs families, our veterans & the community.

14 birthdays were celebrated at the Southwestern Veterans home yesterday. It always pulls at our heartstrings when we are thanked over and over for our visits. It shows how volunteers are truly valued by the residents. Anyone that enjoys talking and has some free time should consider a volunteer opportunity, it is one of the most rewarding things you will ever do. We joined the golfers for their putting competition, and while the men do outnumber the women, there are a loyal group of gal pals that always attend. Doris asked at our last get together if I could frame a photo of the women for her, so as to not leave anyone out we presented all of them with their official gal pal golfing photo. Every visit with them is a fun filled experience.

Just a reminder – DO NOT ENTER THE KITCHEN FOR ANY REASON.

If you want to order or need something, please push one of the buzzers which are located one at the entrance to the kitchen and one in the bar, If you want to compliment the cook or ask a question, please tell your server and she will relay the comment or question to the cook. Also please do not stand at the door and yell into the kitchen, again use the buzzer and the server will come to you as soon as possible.

TRIVIA AND TACO TUESDAY 7:00 PM. SIGN UP AT THE BAR.

Come and join us for a night of fun expounding on your memory of movies, songs and useless information. Leave your high IQ’s at the door. Just have fun. Food and drinks are available as always. Trivia game participation is free and all are invited. Bring your friends and acquaintances with some real useless knowledge, or come alone and we will set up teams. Prizes, trophies, and Post 980 gift certificates to winning teams.

BLOOD DRIVE APRIL 7, 2026

The sign up sheet for the April 7th Blood Drive is available at the bar. The Times are 12:30pm to 5:15pm. Walk-ins are also welcome. Please donate if you are able.

APRIL 8, 2026 Joseph Giuffre, a Senior Justice Officer from the Allegheny County District Attorney’s office will be here on April 8, 2026 The presentation will take place at the April 8 Regular Member meeting at 6:00 pm. Some of the topics will include, Awareness of scams, Project Lifesaver, AI fraud awareness, card “Skimmer” fraud and protecting your money and credit ALL MEMBERS ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND.

FLASH BACK TO HIGH SCHOOL DANCE with DJ BOBBY

7 p to 10 pm No Cover Charge – ALL ARE WELCOME

Dress in the style you wore in High School or wear your High School Colors. Think of your two favorite songs from your High School years and we will ask Bobby to play them. There is no cover charge and all are welcome. If you would like to gather some of your High School pals and decorate a table, I can reserve you a spot. Just email [email protected].

Last night at the Southwestern Veterans Center, was the highly anticipated putting competition, which teams are putting for the coveted trophy’s.

We started off with a pizza party sponsored by Stella, the official mascot of ALA Unit 980 (she ate more than the Vets).

We were so happy to see Don back from the hospital, (he is the amazing artist) and while he wasn’t able to golf, he did enjoy the pizza. Continue to keep him in your prayers. It was a wonderful evening, the laughter rang out of the room, we had some stragglers wander by to see what was going on and they joined in for the pizza.

The ALA Unit 980 & SAL Squad 980 thanks our members Patty Churilla & Terry Churilla for their tireless support & love of our vetetans at Southwestern. We know that these vets appreciate them as much as we do.

One of our long time golfers passed from Southwestern Vetrans Center, James "Jim" Morris, February 20, 1952-March 14 2026. He served in the United States Navey during the Vietnam War. We will miss Jim who never missed a golf date and ] lucky to be included in some of the outings to the American Legion Post #980 Plum Boro, PA.

The loss is tough after getting to know him for all the years we have been volunteering…you become invested in these amazing veterans.

On a lighter note, Becky just loves her hats, so she was proud as a peacock showing off her beret Stella presented her with on her birthday. We have to include Doris also who looks forward to her kisses from Stella.

The American Legion Auxilliary Unit 980's Kids Easter Party was a great time and a great day!

The kids enjoyed donuts and a special Cotton Candy punch just for them, they felt so special with their fancy drink.

They made crafts, played ball, went outside and used their talents to make chalk drawings in the parking lot, chased bubbles and had a egg hunt.

Then they came inside, played with the Easter Bunny, took pictures with the bunny and each child got a prize to take home.

We want to thank all our ALA members who generously volunteered to make this event so fun for the kids and a special thank you to new ALA Unit 980 members Sonjia Westfall & Nora Leubner who planned this great Children's party and thank you to Nora's husband Jesse Leubner SAL Member for also was a big help!

Spring is here and so is the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 980 Spring Bingo Luncheon Fundraiser.

Plan on a fun afternoon of food, fun, cash, prizes, raffles and of course lots of great Bingo!

You will also be helping our military men & women now serving, our veterans & our community by attending this American Legion Auxiliary Unit 980 Fundraiser at the American Legion Post 980, 7824 Saltsburg Rd in Plum Pa 15239, February 22, 2026.

THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

Will will have a very nice Lunch for you, just perfect Day of BINGO

We have increased the 4 Special Games to a prize of $100 each and we will also have a Bingo Basket Raffle along with strip ticket raffles throughout the day
Doors open at 11:00, Lunch starts at 12:00 and Bingo begins at 1:00.
