Happy Flashback Friday!

As our dancers are back in the studio preparing for this fall’s production, Echoes & Illusions, we’re taking a look back at one of last season’s unforgettable new works— The Art of Conversation, by guest choreographer Shana Simmons, Founder/Artistic Director of Shana Simmons Dance.

This thought-provoking work reflects on the rise of social media and the cacophony of voices in our polarized world, asking what it truly means to listen, speak, and connect.

📍New Hazlett Theater

Experience a captivating journey through truth, perspective, and the power of light in the dark. Featuring:

• “Shadows and Light” - Abandoning traditional stage lighting, the dancers illuminate the space themselves with hand-held, high-beam flashlights—casting dynamic shadows on striking choreography and slicing light through the darkness with sharp precision. Choreographed by Alan Obzuor in 2021

• A collection of intimate works, highlighting versatility and emotional range. Three duet & solo works return to the stage, as well as a new work for 5 dancers, created by Madeline Kendall Schreiber

• “Disintegration and Restoration of the Individual” - Showcasing the desperate desire to be our truest self, in a world that constantly tells us to blend in, choreographed by Resident Dancer Jillian Sinko. This piece expands on the original work that premiered at Texture Choreography Project in 2024.

This Saturday, August 15, the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh is hosting Kindergarten, Here I Come! as part of the Northside Block Party—and you don't want to miss it!

Come hang out with us from 10 AM to 2 PM. We’re teaming up with Texture Contemporary Ballet to bring some fantastic activities to the neighborhood, and the Children's Museum will be presenting live performances of Rhea the Great Detective cracking the case at 10:15 AM, 11:15 AM, and 12:15 PM. 🕵🏾‍♀️

(Museum program is free for rising kindergartners + 1 caregiver; standard admission otherwise).

One week left! Applications for Texture Choreography Project close on August 8.

Texture Choreography Project (TCP) is a celebration of new, original choreography and an opportunity for choreographers of all experience levels to showcase their work, explore new ideas, and create on Texture Contemporary Ballet dancers or to bring their own dancers.

Join us November 13 & 14 at The Greer Cabaret Theater in downtown Pittsburgh for an inspiring evening featuring original works by local and national choreographers.
