Good afternoon citizens, A new state law—Beau’s Law (Code of Alabama 3‑6B‑1 to 3‑6B‑7)—goes into effect October 1, 2026. This law does not unchain dogs, but it does set clear standards for how dogs may be tethered or confined outdoors. As the flyer states, “This law does not unchain dogs. It simply sets the standards for how a dog may be tethered or confined outside.”

If you have any questions or concerns please contact The Selma-Dallas County Animal Shelter 334-431-0056.

The Flomaton Police Department would like to make our community, especially local pet owners, aware that Beau’s Law is now in effect in Alabama as of October 1, 2026.

This new law establishes statewide standards for the care, housing, confinement, and tethering of dogs kept primarily outdoors. It addresses requirements involving adequate food and water, appropriate shelter, humane care, and outdoor tethering.

Our goal in sharing this information is simply to help our community understand the new requirements and ensure pet owners have an opportunity to become familiar with the law.
