From guiding safaris to farming his own land, Kelvin M. Tembo’s story is rooted in stewardship.

During UFE’s visit to Zimbabwe, Gracie stepped in as guest host to record a special upcoming episode of Harvesting Wisdom with Kelvin, a guide at Zingweni Vlei Safari Camp. They spoke about his connection to the land and wildlife, along with his efforts to better understand the soil and care for his own farm.

The elephants weren’t part of the interview, but they clearly wanted some camera time too.

Stay tuned for the full conversation.

At Montecito Montessori School, gardening is more than an activity—it’s a key part of the curriculum.

Students learn how to propagate seeds, transplant seedlings into garden spaces, care for growing plants, and harvest the food they produce. They may even take their harvest home to cook or use it during food-preparation lessons at school.

Montecito Montessori School is also participating in Project Grow, an Urban Farming Education program that supports school gardens through resources, education, and community partnerships.

Watch the full Harvesting Wisdom Podcast episode with Principal Stefaney Sotomayor and Dr. Joe Roselle through the link in our bio.

Healthy soil helps strong school gardens take root! 🌱

Urban Farming Education is grateful to announce that Denali Water Solutions is donating free soil to schools participating in Project Grow. This generous support will help transform open spaces into outdoor classrooms where students can grow food, build hands-on skills, and learn through experience.

Project Grow officially kicks off this September! With no set quantity limit, participating schools can request as much soil as their gardens need.

Join Project Grow at www.weareufe.org/projectgrow or contact [email protected].

Available materials and quantities are subject to current availability. Materials are offered in bulk, and pickup is required.

What happens when a school gives nature room to grow? 🌱

We recently visited Montecito Montessori to explore its microforest—a small but powerful space where students can connect with nature, biodiversity, and environmental stewardship right on their campus.

In our upcoming interview, we’ll learn how the microforest began, what students are discovering, and how schools can turn outdoor spaces into living classrooms.

Stay tuned for the full story.

It’s Fun Fact Friday! 🌱💧

Did you know plants “sweat” too? Through a process called transpiration, plants release water v***r through tiny openings in their leaves called stomata.

Transpiration helps plants stay cool, move water and nutrients from their roots to their leaves, and return moisture to the atmosphere as part of the water cycle.

Plants are busier than they look—even when they appear completely still!
