An outdoor STEM challenge for the week: how could you protect a young plant from too much afternoon sun? ☀️

Ask students to sketch an idea, build a small shade structure from available materials, and observe how well it works. Then have them change one part of their design and test it again. The garden becomes a place to ask questions, use evidence, and improve a solution.

Garden tip: After adding shade, check the soil instead of watering on autopilot. Water needs change with the weather and conditions around the plant.

Garden tip: A layer of organic mulch can help slow evaporation. Spread it around plants, leaving space around seedlings and stems rather than piling it against them.
