It was with great sadness that SWGSD Rescue learned of the Hackman's passing. They were were friends and supporters of Southwest German Shepherd Rescue, they adopted 2 from us,
2 years apart.
We stayed in touch and remained long distance friends.
You could not meet 2 nicer, kinder people.
Gene was what I would call a confirmed German Shepherd aficionado, I could not imagine him without a Shepherd. He was also a major softie; I recall him shedding tears upon meeting the first dog he adopted from us, as it was not long after he had just lost one of the 2 strays they had rescued many years prior.
Betsy could certainly hold her own with the big dogs and was committed to their health & care. If one presented so much as a hang nail they would get a full work-up!
The word that comes to mind when I think of Betsy is "warm", a genuinely warm and giving, yet sharp lady.
The manner of their passing makes the loss all the more painful.
