Grief can be a peculiar feeling, in both the ways it is felt immediately, and the way its absence is felt over time. My brother, Jason, died by su***de about thirteen years ago, and as I approach the anniversary of his passing, I’ve begun contemplating what it is I really feel, now.

Before I became a Lifesaver Ambassador for the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention (AFSP), I rarely, if ever, talked about mental health with anyone. AFSP cares and recognizes that Indigenous Peoples, among other marginalized communities, deserve to be supported and cared for.

Last week, members of the AFSP Greater Philadelphia Chapter had the privilege of participating in an impactful event hosted by Professional Women in Construction – Philadelphia Chapter focused on mental health and su***de prevention in the construction industry.

A special thank you to our Education Chair, Jessica Hallahan, for presenting Talk Saves Lives: Construction and helping attendees learn more about su***de prevention, recognizing warning signs, and supporting those who may be struggling.

We would also like to recognize our Treasurer, John Walton, who served as a panelist and spoke on behalf of AFSP while sharing his experience as well.

Thank you to Professional Women in Construction – Philadelphia Chapter for inviting us, to each of the speakers and panelists who shared their knowledge and experiences, and to everyone who attended and participated in this important conversation. 💙
