Tomorrow, one of our own is taking the national stage! đź’š

Geonna “GG” Peterson first came to Camp Jamison as a camper. Today, she’s an alum, mentor, and Camp Jamison leader—and tomorrow she’ll help open the National Summer Learning Association’s Summer Starts in September webinar as a Youth Voice Speaker!

GG will be sharing what camp has meant in her own life and why young people need spaces where they can step away from what they may be carrying, experience peace and joy, and simply be kids.

We talk a lot about the importance of youth voice. This is what it looks like: making sure young people aren't just talked about—they're given the opportunity to speak for themselves.

We are SO proud of you, GG. đź’š

Come hear her tomorrow!

Our 1st Annual Back-to-School Event was a blast! đź’šđź’›

Almost 70 people came to FDR Park. We gave away more than 65 backpacks and school supplies, made crafts, got out on the water, and spent the evening with people we hadn’t seen since camp.

While we were there, people kept asking us the same thing: “When do we get to see each other again?”

I’d call that a success for our new year round programming! 🎒🛶

School's almost back, and we want your camper walking in with a full backpack.

Join us for our First Annual Back to School Event — Friday, September 18, 5:30–7:30 PM at the FDR Park Boathouse, 1500 Pattison Avenue. Free to attend, free parking on site.

Register your camper and a PUMA backpack packed with school supplies is set aside for them. We have 50, and Camp Jamison families are served first — whatever is left on the day goes to the public, first come, first served.

There'll be dinner, drinks, and everything from crafts to games out by the water. The whole Camp Jamison crew will be there.

We asked our campers how the summer went — and we didn't fix the spelling.

On the last day of Flagship Extension, every camper filled out a survey about their session. We're sharing what they wrote exactly as they typed it. The misspellings stay. They're the proof these are kids' words and not ours.

A few things we can't stop thinking about:

Every single camper named an adult at camp who helped them. Not one blank page in the whole stack. Over twenty different staff members were named — by name — by the kids they showed up for. That tells us connection at Camp Jamison isn't one charismatic counselor doing all the lifting. It's the culture we build before a single camper steps off the bus.

When we asked them to finish the sentence "Because of Camp Jamison…", the answer that came up most wasn't friendship. It was self-worth. "i love myself more." "I feel proud being me." "i felt Like i could Do anything."

And when we asked what they'd use back home, they told us about conflict. Counting to ten before reacting. Not yelling when they disagree. Talking it out calm. Nobody prompted those answers. That's peacebuilding walking off this property and into Philly neighborhoods, which is the entire reason Camp Jamison exists.

To our staff: thank you doesn't cover it.

To our families: thank you for trusting us with your kids.

Summer 2027 is coming. Follow this page and you'll hear everything first. đź’š
