Welcome back to a new semester of My Family Kitchen! I am so excited to kickstart the Spring semester today. Thank you to all of our volunteers for participating in orientation last week. Thank you to Valerie for demonstrating her phenomenal knife skills and teaching us all how to cut chicken wings.

I can't wait to see what all the young chefs cook up this semester 😄

And that’s a wrap to the Fall semester of My Family Kitchen! For our final weeks, our young chefs hosted their family and friends to a special meal they prepared. Not only did they cook and bake a meal, they also set the table and festively decorated! The parents couldn’t be more impressed and prouder, and neither could we 😁

Valerie, our Farm to Families Program Manager, recently attended the Food as Medicine Policy Summit and we are so grateful for the opportunity to have a space to learn and connect with like-minded individuals. The vast need highlighted and enthusiasm for fresh foods at the Summit has inspired us to think bigger and do more. We all need to work together to ensure success. Food is a human right and healthy food for all is at the forefront of our fight!

Our Young Chefs and Bakers learned a new word last week! Chiffonade! Cooking isn't just meant to teach you cooking skills and food to eat, but also a vocabulary lesson. Last week, we made Spaghetti & Hand Pies. Our young bakers fell in love with blackberries, and can't wait to try more fruits in pies. 🥧

PS: I also had to look up what chiffonade means, stack the basil leaves, roll them up, and thinly slice them!

The work of SCFC comes in many forms. We create and manage programs, including the Community Oral Health Initiatives and Farm to Families. We invest in many of the best organizations providing innovative, successful children’s health interventions. And we bring people and organizations together to create well rounded, responsive strategies to critical children’s health issues. Our strategies are diverse, but they all allow us to realize our ultimate goal: improved health and wellness, and a lifetime of success, for children in need.
