Therapy Center of Philadelphia

Therapy Center of Philadelphia TCP nurtures individual well-being and personal growth by providing high-quality, affordable therapy to women and gender-expansive people.

We work from an intersectional framework that recognizes social location and oppression as integral to healing. The Center offers individual couples, and group therapy all on a sliding fee scale. Yoga workshops and psychological testing are available as well as a specific program for resolving experiences of trauma. With a diverse staff of over 20 therapists, the Center offers a wide range of counseling expertise including psycho-dynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioral treatment, EMDR, and gestalt therapy, to name a few. TCP also welcomes anyone who identifies as transgender or gender non-conforming, regardless of sex assigned at birth or gender identity. This could include but not be limited to trans women, trans men, gender non-conforming and gender-queer identified folks, as well as transsexuals or anyone on the transgender continuum. Psychotherapy could include exploring issues around being trans-identified including: emotionally transitioning, coming out to family, friends, partners, or at work, medical transition, isolation, building community, relationship to your body, or dealing with trans-phobia. It could also include issues not related to your gender-identity or transitioning but be offered in a trans-affirming space. Our therapists do not operate solely from a gender binary assumption and come with experience and training around how to be trans-affirming and competent. Some are trans-identified as well.

Trans folks deserve conversations that make room for the full person, not only identity, transition, or resilience.

Everyday wellbeing can include friendship, rest, privacy, humor, safety, good healthcare, stable housing, meaningful work, chosen family, creativity, and ordinary moments of ease. These things may sound simple, but they are deeply connected to how supported and grounded someone feels.

When mental health conversations only focus on struggle, they can miss the parts of life that help people feel whole. Trans wellbeing is also about having space to laugh, be cared for, build routines, feel safe in community, and exist without constant explanation.

Care should honor the whole story.

Gender euphoria is the feeling of recognition, comfort, or alignment in someone’s gender experience.

It might happen when a name finally feels right. When clothing feels like self-expression instead of performance. When a community sees someone clearly. When a person feels ease in their body, their reflection, their voice, or the way they move through a space.

These moments can be meaningful parts of wellbeing. Joy is not separate from mental health. Feeling seen, affirmed, and connected to yourself can be deeply supportive.

Affirming care can hold joy, growth, and self-recognition too.

Love can be bold. Freedom can be quiet. Shining can look different every day.

Joy and self-expression are part of mental health too. Feeling connected to your identity, your community, your body, your relationships, and your own sense of becoming can support wellbeing in powerful ways.

You deserve spaces where your joy does not need to be explained, softened, or made smaller.

Take the next step toward affirming support.

Strong communities are built through connection, opportunity, and access.

During National Black Business Month, we also recognize the important role that community organizations play in expanding access to essential resources. From mental health care and education to housing and advocacy, these organizations help create pathways for individuals and families to receive the support they need.

When communities invest in organizations that reflect and understand the people they serve, trust can grow. Accessible, inclusive, and culturally responsive care helps create stronger communities where more people have the opportunity to thrive.

At Therapy Center of Philadelphia, we're committed to providing accessible, affirming mental health care for women, Trans, and gender-expansive individuals.

A wellness routine doesn't have to be complicated to be meaningful.

Choosing habits that fit your schedule, your energy, and your daily life can make it easier to stay consistent over time. That could mean taking a walk, connecting with someone you trust, accepting support when needed, practicing mindfulness, or making space to simply rest. Wellness isn't measured by how much you do, it's shaped by what helps you feel supported.

Your needs may change with different seasons of life, and your routine can change with them. Checking in with yourself regularly is one way to build a routine that continues to work for you.

This National Wellness Month, give yourself permission to start small. Every step that supports your wellbeing is worth celebrating.

Support is not only for the moment everything falls apart.

Therapy can help with life transitions, relationship patterns, identity exploration, boundaries, grief, burnout, stress, and the everyday weight of carrying too much for too long.

You do not need to prove that your pain is “serious enough” before you deserve care. Wanting more clarity, steadiness, or support is already a valid reason to reach out.

Take the next step toward the care you deserve.

TCP is hiring a Development Director. This is a new role and a pivotal one — the person who steps into it will join our tri-leadership team as a co-equal voice in organizational decision-making, shaping the future of a 50-year-old organization built around feminist, antiracist, gender-affirming care.

The Development Director will lead our fundraising, communications, and strategic planning. We're looking for someone with 3–5 years of nonprofit development experience, strong grant writing skills, and a genuine commitment to gender and racial justice. This is a part-time role (16–20 hours/week, $30k/year) with a flexible, hybrid schedule.

If this sounds like you — or someone you know — we'd love to hear from you.

Emotions are often misunderstood, especially when people are taught to prioritize control over expression.

Many women, Trans folx, and LGBTQIA+ communities grow up receiving messages that emotional expression should be limited or hidden. Over time, this can make it harder to recognize feelings, communicate needs, or process stress in a healthy way.

Being able to understand and express emotions supports emotional regulation, stronger relationships, and a more grounded sense of self.

Support should feel steady, affirming, and accessible.

Inclusive language plays a real role in how safe LGBTQIA+ and Trans folx feel in everyday spaces.

For many people, being addressed correctly, through names and pronouns, is not just about communication. It shapes whether a space feels respectful enough to open up, share experiences, or simply exist without tension. Small moments of recognition can influence emotional safety more than we often realize.

When language reflects identity with care, it helps reduce the need for constant correction and creates space for more ease, trust, and connection in conversations.

Care should feel respectful and grounded.
