“Do one outrageous thing in the cause of simple justice.”

Thank you to the Philadelphia Inquirer for resurfacing this article from 1982, documenting Gloria Steinem’s visit to Philadelphia to receive the WOMEN'S WAY Lucretia Mott Award.

Remembering when Steinem came to Philadelphia to fight for Equal Rights at Bloomingdale's. Originally published on Thursday, May 13, 1982.

Today, we honor the life of Gloria Steinem, bold advocate, journalist, and one of the defining voices of the feminist movement for decades. She committed much of her life to breaking down barriers and demanding security, dignity, freedom, and joy for women.

Gloria’s path crossed with WOMEN’S WAY twice. In 1982, she traveled to Philadelphia to receive our Lucretia Mott Award. (She was our fifth recipient). And in 1987, she returned as a speaker at our Unfinished Agenda Conference, addressing economic equity, reproductive choice, and women’s leadership. These issues remain deeply connected to our work to advance gender equity today.

Throughout her life, Gloria fought for a more equitable future and showed that change is possible. Her life and legacy will continue to inspire generations of advocates to do the same.

Did you attend the Unfinished Agenda Conference and hear Gloria Steinem speak? Do you have a story about how she influenced your own involvement at WOMEN’S WAY? We know Gloria's life had a big impact on many in our community and invite you to share your story at womensway.org/WW50Stories or in the comments below!

To advance gender economic equity, we need to better understand what we're up against.

At the 5th Annual Gender Wealth Summit, we're offering three workshops to explore the systems that are keeping gender inequities locked in place.

One of those workshops is our Cis-Heteropatriarchy Workshop, facilitated by Dr. Jenn Pollitt of Temple University. Dr. Pollitt is the Assistant Director of Temple’s Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program and an Assistant Professor whose teaching and scholarship explore gender, sexuality, disability, law, media, and education.

Her work examines topics including sexuality education, sexual citizenship, digital culture, and the ways law and public policy shape our intimate lives.

For those who have been engaged in this work for years - and for those who are just beginning to explore these ideas - the Gender Wealth Summit offers a space for everyone to learn and grow.

Today is Women's Equality Day, marking the anniversary of the 19th Amendment. This was a major milestone that granted women increased social and political power, though it fell short for Black women, women of color, and LGBTQIA+ people.

The fight for the vote was one chapter in a much bigger story that has been shared across generations.

Right now, a new generation of leaders is rising to the call: building exciting solutions, organizing their communities in new ways, and designing a more equitable future.

In honor of our 50th Anniversary, we relaunched YWI this year as the YWI Philanthropic Community: a new space for emerging leaders to make a direct impact with organizations across our region that are working to advance the rights of young women, girls, and gender-diverse youth.

This work takes all of us. Join us today on Women's Equality Day to help our YWI Founding Members launch this initiative and continue to drive change for gender equity in our region.

Spots are almost gone for our Wealth Supremacy Workshop at the 5th Annual Gender Wealth Summit, and we think we understand why...

Our current economy is concentrating power and resources in the hands of a few, and at the expense of our collective well-being. More and more people want to explore sustainable and equitable models that allow all of our communities to thrive, and that's exactly why this workshop exists.

Our facilitators, Nydea Graves and Raquel Jackson-Stone of One Pennsylvania, bring deep expertise to the conversation and will help attendees dig deeper into this topic and its connection to gender economic equity.

If you're interested in taking a deeper dive into how this might apply to the areas you live, lead, and work in, you'll want to sign up today before spots run out.

Our annual staff retreat was the perfect mix of connection and renewal.

Day one was filled with team-wide updates and brainstorming for the upcoming fiscal year, while day two was spent laughing, playing games, and cheers-ing by the pool (not to mention making a new furry friend)!

Carving out intentional time for our staff to learn from each other and bond was incredibly rewarding. We left this retreat with full minds and hearts, and ready to take on a new fiscal year.
