Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman, their spouses and children. The Foundation coordinates closely with Reconnaissance commands to support critical needs of active-duty operators while also providing resources for Reconnaissance veterans. Our work is focused on four key areas: Critical and ongoing support for the wounded, family services command support, educational programs, and legacy activities. The Foundation was formed in June of 2013 when it was identified that there was no foundation or support for this special community and their families. This foundation will make it easier for families to receive assistance and support from one organization that is solely dedicated to the Reconnaissance community. Statement of Purpose
Established to serve U.S. Marine Corps Reconnaissance personnel, and their families, the Marine Reconnaissance Foundation offers critical support to Reconnaissance commands, active-duty personnel, their families and former Reconnaissance Marines and Sailors. As the duration and frequency of training and operational deployments continue, and the stress on the families and Marines grows, this special community requires support today more than ever.

A FAMILY OF SERVICE: THE WALSH LEGACY

Honoring a Fallen Recon Marine. Welcoming His Son into the Marine Corps.

On 26 May 2007, Sergeant Nicholas R. “Nick” Walsh, a Reconnaissance Team Leader with Charlie Company, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, was killed in action in Fallujah, Iraq. He was 26 years old and left behind his wife, Julie, and two young sons, Triston and Tanner.

Tanner was just an infant when his father made the ultimate sacrifice.

Nearly 19 years later, on Friday, 23 October 2026, Tanner Walsh will graduate from Marine Corps Recruit Depot, carrying forward his family’s proud legacy of service as he earns the title of United States Marine.

Members of the Marine Reconnaissance Foundation Board of Directors, alongside fellow Recon Marines and Sailors, will be there to honor Nick, stand with the Walsh family, and welcome Tanner into the brotherhood of Marines.

With a heavy heart we report the passing of Norman “Gunny” Jennings.

Norm was a legendary Force Reconnaissance Marine who served MACV-SOG (Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group) Naval Advisory Detachment (NAD) based out of Da Nang Vietnam.

From 1964 to 1971, Force Recon Marines, SEAL’s, Boat Support Unit One along with our South Vietnamese Sea Commando teammates as part of MAC/V SOG’s Naval Advisory Detachment. NAD operations included numerous naval raids against key targets in North Vietnam as well as North Vietnamese naval craft during the conduct of the raids. NAD ran a variety of seaborne operations including the training and support of the Vietnamese Coastal Security Service, which was actually a raiding, sabotage and intelligence force. NAD had a small fleet of high speed, low slung Norwegian built torpedo boats, hard to detect on radar. During its existence, NAD conducted numerous covert operation, including the Gulf of Tonkin incident in 1964.

Norm is remembered for his service in the Force Recon community and for setting the standard with other legendary Force Reconnaissance men such as Fred Vogel, Don Hamblen, William “Tub” Effinger, Terry Moore, Reb Bearce & Johan Haferkamp and others who also served with MACV/SOG’s NAD.

Following Marine Corps service, Norm continued serve our Nation in any clime and place around the world, leading and mentoring younger warriors in combat zones and training around the world.

With a heavy heart we report the passing of Brett William “Task Force” Taulbee in August 2026

Task Force is a legendary figure in the Recon community, known to show up with no notice out of the blue in austere locations such as the mean streets of Somalia, the deserts of 29 Palms, at a drop zone far away from townships or on the shores of Oahu, Okinawa or Taiwan.

Everyone from the 1990’s has a story about TFT and his signature greeting “err Marine err” is still talked about today.

Task Force Taulbee was probably best remembered from his exploits in a kayak, whether it be during operation desert storm, or off the coast of California during over the horizon OTH small craft operations. 

He was an extra extraordinary open ocean sailor known to have sailed solo from Okinawa to Taiwan and back again in a 4m wooden boat.

He was an exceptionally unique individual who always put another Marine before himself.

LOE3: Historic Preservation

LtCol Terrence “Terry” Moore is a legendary Force Reconnaissance Marine who received a battlefield commission in Vietnam, served in MACV SOG, with the Central Intelligence Agency and was inducted into the USSOCOM Commando Hall of Honor in 2015.

Terry passed away on 9 June 2018. He is not forgotten.

We are honored to have Lieutenant General James F. Glynn, USMC (Ret.) as our Guest of Honor and Guest Speaker.

A 1989 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, LtGen Glynn served 37 years in the Marine Corps, concluding his career as Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific. His distinguished service included command of Marine Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC), service as Deputy Commandant for Manpower & Reserve Affairs, and combat service spanning Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, and Inherent Resolve.
