The Elton John Impact Awards are now live. Join in as the honorees share their impactful personal stories that highlight LGBTQ+ excellence and hear more about this program's inpact on LGBTQ+ communities around the country.

As a beneficiary organization, we are committed to using the support to continue our mission among the North County LGBTQ+ community. We hold our community in the highest regard as we fight to provide food, housing, financial security, job security, safety, mental stability, and so much more to our clients and visitors. During unstable times these things are rarely guaranteed, especially to communities experiencing marginalization.

The best way to help us out today is to tune into the awards show as the honorees discuss their impact on and for the LGBTQ+ community.

Happy almost Pride Month everyone! Here is our events list for June for both our own events and the events we are attending for outreach; our support groups are listed separately in our linktree and on our website

For this month we have several Pride proclamations and flag raisings throughout North County (we are hosting our own flag raising for Oceanside Hall), we have our 19th annual Pride by the Beach, along with a pre-party for Pride at Gossip Grill the day before. For outreach we have several Pride events, the Filipino Festival, Juneteenth, and a Drag Show. We encourage you to visit, stay loud, and celebrate your community as we pushback against oppressive policy making, bigotry, and injustice through the celebration and joy of Q***r identity.

If you need more information on any of these events, please check out our website. If you still have questions, you are welcome to email us at [email protected] or give us a call at (760) 994-1690.

WE NEED YOU - IMPORTANT MOMENT OF COMMUNITY ADVOCACY!

In these uncertain, complicated, and violent times, we, as an LGBTQ+ Center fight to offset injustices that are forced onto our community. We work to provide and connect our clients with shelter, food, healthcare, social support, and so much more. Our work in advocacy leads us to educate and guide civic councils, school boards, and the general public in order to uplift and maintain the civil liberties of LGBTQ+ people. We will not stop, and we will continue to work toward a better, more equitable future.

The North County Center is hosting its own Pride flag raising and press conference, and we NEED our community to show up.

Why are we doing this? Despite the City of Oceanside hosting the only LGBT Center in North County, the majority council -as today- does not have to votes to raise the Rainbow flag at City Hall.

After last year's “change of heart” of council member Jimmi Figureroa that voted last minute against the raising of the rainbow flag citing “to have experienced the most hateful pushback” and leaving our LGBT community exposed to even further hate and isolation, this year again we do not have the votes to have it flown. This is why -even if symbolically- we are taking this matter into our own hands till we will have a free Oceanside from bigotry and prejudice.

We are calling on YOU to stand with us; we want a big crowd to demonstrate the North County LGBTQ+ community's commitment to fighting injustice and the pushback on our rights. Tell your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, and anyone else to show up in solidarity. Pride flag raisings are a symbol of support and safety; we are taking the narrative back from bigots to proudly declare that we are human, we deserve safety, and we deserve basic decency.

Our Q***rness is not a sin, flaw, nor mistake to be hidden and trampled on. Our Q***rness makes us brave; it makes us stronger together. Join us as we raise the rainbow flag and scream from the bottom of our hearts that we are here to stay.

The North County Center is proud to announce we are a beneficiary of the Elton John Impact Awards, a new platform to honor the LGBTQ+ icons, legends, and trailblazers of our current culture.

In a time where our own government waging a war against our LGBTQIA+ identities, the North County LGBTQ+ Resource Center's mission to serve, empower, and advocate for our diverse community is more vital than ever. Standing up against attacks on our immigrant families, our communities of color, and our transgender youth is how we see our mission applied in this volatile time. Any support for our programming will enhance our impact while creating a brave space where people can meet and organize.

We are grateful for the support and visibility from the Elton John Impact Awards, P&G and Looking Out Foundation as we continue on this journey of advocacy.

You can tune in to the Elton John Impact Awards on June 1 across iHeartRadio stations or via podcast to hear the candid, powerful conversations and stories of impact from this year’s honorees and the organizations that directly benefit from this incredible program.

Join us as we welcome Pride Month with several proclamations and flag raisings throughout North County. These symbolic ceremonies are meant to build a bridge between city municipals and both our Center and the LGBTQ+ population as a whole. Cities who are proudly participating are pledging their support and continued resistance to increasingly homophobic and transphobic rhetoric throughout our current political system. We encourage our community to witness these celebrations to show our North County cities that such support is not only appreciated, but also necessary.

Proclamations:
Vista May 26 @ 5:30 pm
Oceanside June 3 @ 5:00 pm
Encinitas June17 @ 6:00 pm

Flag Raisings:
Vista June 1 @ 9:00 am
Encinitas June 2 @ 1:00 pm

May 24th is Pans*xual and Panromantic Visibility Day. To be pans*xual is to have s*xual or romantic attraction outside of the notion of, nor limited by, gender. Panromantic is the same, just without the s*xual attraction. A fair majority of our modern-day understanding of s*xuality usually has some relation to attraction based on gender. Heteros*xual people are attracted to opposite genders, homos*xual people are attracted to the same gender, bis*xual people are attracted to multiple genders. Bis*xuality and pans*xuality are similar, yet the distinction between the two matters to many people. It is generally understood that while bis*xual people are attracted to multiple or all genders, there still is a relationship with gender within that attraction. Pans*xual people typically care little for gender relationships, and gender does not change how their attraction presents itself.

Pans*xuality, while a newer label, has always been a specific form of attraction. As society becomes more aware of the nuances of gender and s*xuality, new labels have opened up to describe specific experiences. Pans*xuality is often overlooked, erased, labeled a fad, etc., yet it still is used by 1-2% of the US population. It is important to understand LGBTQ+ labels are a way to describe your personal experience and to find community; they can change, they can be vague, they can be used for yourself for however you see fit. What matters is that you feel comfortable, acknowledged, and secure in your gender and s*xuality.

Today, 17 May, is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, a global movement meant to broadcast the LGBTQ+ community's ongoing fight for justice and equity. This community continues to show up for each other as we battle against unending oppressive policies, violence, discrimination, and social ostracization.

We encourage each of you to get involved in some way to show up for the community. Volunteer for an organization that is pushing for change, pick up a friend's groceries, donate to various organizations or crowdfunds, facilitate a support group, support a parent who is navigating LGBTQ+ issues for their child, and the list goes on.

If you are interested in volunteering, or would like to make a donation, please visit our linktree in our bio to access both options.
