Students (PIGs) of the Scout Sniper Course (SSC) class 1-22 experiencing the joys of stalking on one of the many stalk lanes utilized aboard Camp Pendleton CA. The students were comprised of a mixture of Recon Marines and Marines from the various infantry Sniper Platoons across the USMC.

In the same fashion, the instructors were comprised of a mixture of Snipers from the Recon Battalion’s and the Various Sniper Platoons from across the USMC. The West Coast Sniper School House fell under Recon Training Company at AITB-W, SOI-W before the traditional Sniper School Houses were deactivated.

This ought to bring back some memories for many folks of Bear Crawling or Doing Lunges with all your gear soaked in sweat in a ghille suit back to the start points. (With bits of branches, dirt, poison oak, etc. all over you going down your blouse 😆😩)

Basic Reconnaissance Course (BRC) Class 3-22 on their final movement during Patrol Phase carrying casualties rescued from a simulated TRAP Mission through some of the most treacherous terrain aboard Camp Pendleton.

From zero dark thirty in the morning they have been hit with CS Gas, Arty Sims, and attacks while under full loadouts from their missions conducted over the past week with little-to-no sleep, covering countless miles. At this stage the Ropers (students) are pretty much zombies hallucinating as the sun comes up.

Moving too slowly or not maintaining proper security is just going to get further “Incoming Drills” called down by the instructors. Requiring that exhausting up and down movement under heavy load. There is still a long ways to go …

This isn’t just coffee....it’s a way to carry the legacy forward.

The Force Recon Association Support Kit pairs Sea State Coffee’s Recon Roast with an FRA mug, created for those who believe in honoring the Marines who built and carried the Force Recon legacy.

Sea State Coffee is founded and operated by a Force Recon Marine, bringing discipline, precision, and purpose into every roast.

For every kit ordered, $10 is donated directly to the Force Recon Association.

Pour the coffee. Raise the mug. Support the mission.

Major James Capers Jr., U.S. Marine Corps, received the Medal of Honor today.

Born into a sharecropping family in South Carolina, James Capers Jr. joined the Marine Corps in 1956 and went on to become one of the service’s pioneering Force Reconnaissance Marines.

During a reconnaissance mission near Phu Loc, Vietnam, in April 1967, then-Second Lieutenant Capers continued leading his team after suffering multiple gunshot and fragmentation wounds. Refusing evacuation, he coordinated the defense and extraction until every Marine under his command was safely aboard the helicopter.

The National Medal of Honor Museum will preserve and share his story so future generations can better understand the determination, leadership, and commitment to others that defined his actions that day.

BRC 1-21 Team 2 Patrol Phase Extract Ambush:
After a week of little to no sleep, patrolling countless miles across the worst terrain Camp Pendleton has to offer, the teams were individually extracted after completion at their final objective. However the happy thoughts of returning to the FOB were shattered as the extract vehicle was disabled in an ambush a short ride in.

Exhausted, delirious, and hallucinating, the Ropers (Students) must gather their composure in the s**t show cloud of CS Gas and make the rest of the movement on foot for an additional 8 miles to a new extract site moving through “choice terrain” being attacked along the way. There will be plenty more hallucinations and suffering to come until they make it to extract by daybreak.

The most dangerous part of any R&S mission is always Insert and Extract. They cannot let their guard down in the false security of a vehicle when they think they’re going home…
