DOGS DUN GOOD! Paws up to all these former shelter dogs and their people for earning their CGC / Canine Good Citizen certification last Saturday. Big thanks to Deassa Binstock & Kat (Ripple Effect Animal Project's own rock stars 🧑) for running such a great test. Extry thanks to Berenice Mora for all your help and Ashley for bringing your adorable neutral dog. Teamwork!

I love how the Universe operates. Right as we were learning that Cooper's maybe-humans weren't quite ready for a puppy, along comes Monet (left) with the Tuff Love lessons this puppy needs at this stage of her life. You can just imagine the fun these two are having together. RAWR!

Omph! XL-GIRL with XL-GOOD VIBES. Play group rock star 'Maude' is waiting for love at Contra Costa Animal Services
Total joy bunny, toy diva, party animal, love machine. Maybe 3yo? We had so much fun with her. Control collar is recommended to steer her right now bc she moves like a 6mos puppy but she’s BOOM BOOM BIG. πŸ’₯
Omg go meet this girl if you’re shopping for happy times.

πŸ”₯ We're seeing an uptick in requests for rescue help with dogs in crisis. Not surprising given that Miranda's Rescue has been found out. We don't do a lot of rescue, but we still want to remind people of a few things:

1) We believe adopters deserve lovely dogs that make life HAPPY. When we have room, we set our sights on the most family-friendly and dog-tolerant dogs in need - usually Blocky headed dogs. No shortage, right? My gawd, they're in every shelter. We don't mind naughty dogs! Rough & rowdy dogs and even dog-grumpy dogs. We train'em up, match'em with ready homes and support them as they find their groove together.

We DON'T accept dogs with behavior extremes, overt aggression towards people especially. And we do euthanize if a dog crops up with unworkable behaviors after they've joined us. It's rare, but it comes up occasionally. Before the haters go cray: Damaged temperaments are a 'dog thing' not a 'breed thing.' Many committed families with imperfect dogs love and manage them beautifully, and they get our full respect for showing us all how it's done. We just can't in good faith ask our adopters to take on a bigger burden.

2) If you're hoping to surrender (or transfer) a dog-in-need to us who shows behavior extremes, FYI - we'll have to decline them, BUT we'll do our best to help you find resources to help you make responsible decisions that work for all of you. And we'll hop on the phone if you need to talk it out.

Let's continue to work together to match the people who've chosen to adopt with dogs that bring them a life of joy.

Meet Monet. She was delivered to safety by a Good Samaritan who found her near his home in Richmond, CA. Please enjoy the comments he shared with Contra Costa Animal Services on his 'Stray Dog Form'

How did you find this dog? "Roaming around, barking with other dogs at a gate and following a kid, and it is not the kid's dog."

How was the dog with your and/or your family? "The dog seems friendly and kind. It does jump."

Was it around any children? "It was scaring the little kid, but it was friendly."

Was the dog around other animals? "They were sniffing each other through the gate."

And then he was kind enough to get her off the street and to the shelter, where she would meet Peyton, her new foster dad. Thank you stranger! You're as good hearted as the dog you helped.

He had a long decompression period and wouldn't tell us what happened pre-shelter that was so-very-scary. And he only settled once we started massaging him and treating him as one of our own. One of our own, as in, we gave him our whole hearts and he knew it. We usually try to keep a 'professional distance' - it's good for both parties - but this guy needed more and wow did he show up when we told him we loved him. We did several meetings with Vickie & Daniel to help everyone start that bond. Turning him over to this kind, gentle and thoughtful couple was epic. They're Numan's family now and our extended family too. Rock on with your Big Bad Self Numan! You did such a good job being a Nooms.

COOPER .... Our new pup's name is Cooper, in honor of the 'bestest girl,' loved by April Adelmund many years ago. β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή I mean, how could we not? The 9wks old puppy is available for a fresh new start through a foster-first arrangement. Link to more info in comments.

April, if you feel up to it please tell us your girl's story below. And if you'd rather not, that's fine too. Thank you for giving us a way to honor her and others just like her.

Name your Grief.
πŸ”₯ Anytime we assist with the euthanasia of a healthy dog - whether at an animal shelter, cruelty site, vet's office - I always send the dogs off with a little prayer: "I'm so sorry we couldn't give you the life you deserve. Please boomerang back here and give us humans a chance to get it right."

So this little stray wandered into our focus 2wks ago. Her hold is up now and we'll be looking for an adoption match - but more on that later. I'd like to think that like all pups, her purpose is to give people a chance to "get it right," and that definitely played out with the East Oakland women who first took her in and did all the right stuff to find her family.

πŸ”₯ Now that she's a BR dog, we need to call her something besides 'Stray Puppeh.' πŸ˜† It seems fitting to name her after one of the Pit Bull type dogs who were 'lost' at Miranda's. A chance to name our grief and maybe press our collective restart button.

Can we do that? Open to your suggestions.

PS - We 'knew' and didn't send any dogs to Mirandas, but we break a little with every photo that pops up of dogs who were lost. To those who are grieving: We hear you. Stand steady. Broken hearts are fierce AF once they've had a chance to heal.

SAFE PARKING PROGRAMS. Can someone with first hand experience offer feedback on these sites that are dotted around the Bay Area? (For those who don't know, they're managed lots that offer security and even resources for people living in their vehicles.)

We refer houseless dog owners to them all the time, but outside of one very nice example (a couple we worked with was eventually matched to housing thanks to this program) we don't really have much good inside intel on how they're working these days. TIA for any solid feedback.
