New group incoming! Crisis Support Services is launching another free weekly drop in group at the San Leandro Senior Center (13909 E 14th St, San Leandro, CA) starting July 8th. This group is to support anyone who is experiencing the death of a loved one, and is facilitated by trained therapists. Call 1-800-260-0094 for more information, or ask at the front desk of the Senior Center. Please share with your networks!

Healing Hearts Day 2026 was filled with movement, joy, remembrance, connection, community, and our hearts are so very full.

To every volunteer who gave your time so generously, to every attendee who showed up and moved with us, to every donor and sponsor who invested in this mission, and every community partner who helped create such a meaningful experience, WE THANK YOU! You made this day possible.

We’re also deeply grateful to Councilmember Rowena Brown and Agnes Cho, representing Supervisor Fortunato Bas, for joining us and presenting Certificates in honor of Healing Hearts Day and celebrating 60 years of Crisis Support Services. We also extend our sincere appreciation to Mayor Barbara Lee for recognizing this milestone through a Certificate of Recognition and for honoring the impact of this work in our community.

A special thank you to our Health & Wellness Fair partners for bringing valuable resources and care to our community, the City of Oakland Parks & Recreation for supporting race logistics, and to Marsha, Frank, Master Sheldon, Julia, and Erica for bringing incredible energy, movement, and heart to the day.

As we celebrate 60 years of Crisis Support Services, Healing Hearts Day reminded us of something powerful: healing happens in community, and no one should have to face their hardest moments alone.

We’re so excited to welcome you to Healing Hearts Day 2026 at Edoff Memorial Bandstand, 666 Bellevue Ave, Oakland, CA 94610, this Saturday! Join us for a meaningful morning filled with community, movement, wellness, and celebration.

To get ready for the day, we recommend bringing water, comfortable shoes, sunblock, and anything else you may need to feel supported and comfortable.

Here is a preview of the day:

8:30 AM- Registration begins
9:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Health Fair, Free Smoothies provided by SmoothieLicious Bay Area, and Free Henna HandArt Natural Henna Art & Photography
9:20 AM - 9:30 AM: Oakland Taiko Performance
9:30 AM - 9:40 AM: Warm up guided by Frank Clayton Performance Coaching
9:50 AM - 10:10 AM: Tai Chi/Qigong with Master Sheldon from Deep Root Center for Spiritual Studies
10:10 AM - 10:40 AM: Yoga with Marsha Rosenblatt
10:40 AM - 10:50 AM: Dance Party
10:50 AM - 11:00 AM: Closing Remarks

Hello! In case you aren't aware, our indoor space is actually the office of an incredible nonprofit, . We are so grateful for their generosity in housing our nascent dojo and now we have a chance to give back!

CSS is putting on their annual Healing Hearts Day next weekend. The "main event" is a 5k around Lake Merritt, and there will be other movement options including Taiji and Yoga. Our dojo will be in attendance and we've set ourselves a fundraising goal of $1,000, all of which will go toward supporting CSS in providing vital mental health support services to our community.

This year at Healing Hearts we will be remembering Tosha Stimage, an artist, florist, and beloved community member who died unexpectedly on March 3rd. Tosha came into our lives when we were looking for someone to make marigold garlands for our Dia de los Mu***os event. In her typically generous Tosha fashion, she offered to make them for free once she heard about the mission of our organization. She said that someone had died on her street the previous week and that she hadn't been able to honor his loss, and that creating these garlands was her gift to her community. She remained connected and generous to CSS after that day, making our flower arrangements, wreath making workshops, and gifting care packages. We will miss her tremendously.

Our ORCA program will be at the Healing Hearts event next Saturday, May 30th! Come meet our staff, play some games, and win tickets to the Ballers, the Roots, or the Warriors! We will have free mendhi for the artsy types, and an egg and spoon race for the adventurous. The ORCA team is excited to meet with the community and ready to cheer on anyone who wants help fundraise!

We’re honored to highlight Master Sheldon Callahan of Deep Root Center for Spiritual Studies part of this year’s Healing Hearts Day community.

Master Sheldon is the Head Trainer of Shaolin Life, where he teaches Kung Fu, Qigong, and Tai Chi with a focus on discipline, balance, and inner growth. Through his practice, Master Sheldon creates space for people to strengthen both body and spirit. His presence reminds us that healing can take many forms, and that care, community, and self-awareness are all part of the journey.

We’re grateful to welcome Master Sheldon into the Healing Hearts community and to uplift the wisdom and intention he brings to others through his work.
