Latasha Harlins was shot and murdered by Korean Liquor Store owner Soon Ja Du. Soon accused 15 year old Latasha of stealing a bottle of Orange Juice.. Video evidence shown Latasha with money in her hand, before Soon attacked her. Latasha fought back and put the OJ on the counter before turning to leave (according to witnesses), Soon grabbed a handgun and shot the 15 year old in the back of the head killing her. This incident happened 13 days after the videotapped beating of .. the subsequent was also for Latasha... as other vulture stores of the community were burned to the ground. Black store owners at this point began to put signs "Black Owned" to signify who was apart of the community.
