s to educate and empower people to protect and improve the natural and human environment. Our goals are to:
• Solve the climate crisis primarily through a successful transition to a resource-efficient clean energy economy that better serves people and nature;
• Secure protections for public lands and waters, promote healthy ecosystems and communities, and fight for clean air and water;
• Expand opportunities for more people to explore, enjoy, and protect the planet by supporting programs and policies that reach across economic, cultural, and community lines to get people outdoors; and
• Build a diverse, inclusive environmental movement that reflects and represents today’s American public, and prioritizes important connections between environmental health and social justice. As the fiscal sponsor of the charitable programs of the Sierra Club, we provide resources to it and other nonprofit organizations to support scientific, educational, literary, organizing, advocacy, and legal programs that further our goals.

In West Texas, the Rio Grande is the heartbeat of the Big Bend. Now the Trump Administration and the Department of Homeland Security are mobilizing to build hundreds of miles of border wall or other border infrastructure through Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park, and other sensitive lands.

Imagine visiting Big Bend and not being able to canoe, raft, fish, or hike through the magnificent canyons without navigating bright lights, razor wire, steel walls, and surveillance towers.

This would be devastating for the communities and landowners along the border, as well as for the wildlife that rely on these lands and the river.

The Trump administration is costing American families hundreds of millions to keep frontline communities breathing toxic pollutants from burning coal by brazen abuse of a federal power.

Accountability is simple: if you cause harm, you should pay for it.

But Big Oil and Gas is pushing H.R.8330 and S.4340, the “Stop Climate Shakedowns Act of 2026,” to block climate lawsuits and shield polluters from responsibility—while communities face rising costs and real damage.

States and cities are already holding polluters accountable. Congress should not take that away.

Tell Congress: no immunity for Big Oil and Gas. People over polluter profits.

The Trump Administration is rolling out the red carpet for companies to drill wherever they please in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Help us send a message to oil and gas companies: hands off the Arctic!

Speak up now!

We must oppose leasing in the Refuge — and demand companies stay away.

Protect the Arctic Refuge. Oppose the leases.

Share this post and tag ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, Chevron, REPSOL, Hilcorp, Santos, and Shell to demand they stay out of the Arctic.

When everything seems quite bleak, we're bringing some hope and GOOD NEWS to your feed! 👏 Here is PROOF that contacting your representatives and speaking out CAN and DOES make a difference!

On Earth Day, after weeks of collective public commentary, contacting representatives, and during our DC fly-in, we received the great news: The House of Reps removed the ESA Amendments Act from consideration.

The work we're doing is paying off, THANK YOU for standing with us to protect our environment.

Go to sc.org/EndangeredSpecies to continue supporting the fight to protect the Endangered Species Act, and the wildlife which we all rely on.

Texas power plants are guzzling billions of gallons of water every year, while the state faces a projected shortage of more than 1 trillion gallons. Sierra Club’s new report, Watts Wasting Texas Water, reveals the staggering water use of coal and gas plants and highlights cleaner energy options that use barely a drop. What happens in Texas matters everywhere.

On a party-line vote yesterday, the Senate confirmed "Sell-Off Steve" Pearce's nomination to lead the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), an agency that oversees 245 million acres of our public lands. When he was a member of Congress, Pearce pushed to sell off public lands, erase protections for national monuments, and give away our public lands to corporate polluters to drill and mine. He even went as far to write that “we do not even need” most public lands.

We must make it clear: our public lands are NOT FOR SALE! Demand that our members of Congress change course and defend public lands: sc.org/LandsAction

⚠️ Trump is still attacking our wildest forests! 🌲

Our undeveloped national forests are the heart of our public land. But now, one of the most important — and most underappreciated — conservation policies is on the verge of being cut by Trump. If the Roadless Area Conservation Rule is repealed, 45 million acres of protected national forests across the country would be opened up for the first time to road building and the logging, mining, and extractive industries that come with that.

The Tongass National Forest is considered the "Crown Jewel" of the National Forest System. It's full area exceeds the size of West Virgina, and more than half of the Tongass is protected by the Roadless Rule. That's 9.2 million acres of oldgrowth forests, glaciers, clean rivers, and wildlife habitat. Alaskans have spoken up for the Tongass for years and, as the Roadless Rule comment period approaches, they're doing it again.

The National Science Foundation funds a chief scientist training program through which early-career scientists spend weeks on a research vessel to conduct research in their respective fields. In January, six women from universities across the US participated in the program and traveled to Antarctica to understand different aspects of sea ice.
