Our hearts are with everyone affected by the Garden Grove chemical facility hazard this past week.

This is yet another incident that underscores the importance of the ‘Safer Communities by Chemical Accident Protection’ Risk Management Program (RMP) Rule.

Online federal tools can help you learn the enforcement and compliance history of such chemical sites in your area.

"The grim reality is that 23-35 million pounds of pesticide ingredients used annually in the United States are PFAS. California has registered 53 PFAS pesticides. And about 2.5 million pounds of those poisons are applied annually to California cropland."

https://calmatters.org/commentary/2026/05/forever-pesticides-california-limit/

PFAS chemicals were found in nearly 40% of samples of nonorganic fruits and vegetables California regulators tested in 2023. A bill would ban their use.

It was only three years ago that train cars containing more than 100,000 gallons of vinyl chloride and PVC plastic derailed and were subsequently burned, setting off a major environmental health disaster that contaminated East Palestine, Ohio.

Three years later, residents are still getting sick from toxic fallout related to the derailment. This devastating incident is a painful reminder of the inherent dangers of making, transporting, using, and disposing of vinyl chloride and other chemicals to make PVC plastic.

The number one use of vinyl chloride is to make PVC for building products like vinyl flooring and siding. Retailers like The Home Depot continue to sell PVC, despite safer alternatives being available.

Today — the day of its annual shareholder meeting — we’re joining Toxic-Free Future and our allies in calling on The Home Depot to act as a leader in transitioning us away from using plastic building products made with cancer causing chemicals.

Can you join us in asking The Home Depot to ban PVC plastic? Take action: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/tell-home-depot-to-ban-pvc-plastic/

👶🏼 Did you know that diapers may contain harmful substances that can alter babies' hormones?

We're proud to co-sponsor California Assembly Bill 1901, which would require the disclosure of intentionally added ingredients in children’s diapers on product packaging and online.

AB 1901 is authored by Assemblymember Marc Berman and we're proud to co-sponsor alongside Environmental Working, Consumer Reports, and Children Now.

‼️ Big thanks to Academy Award-winning actress Hilary Swank for advocating for AB 1901: https://people.com/hilary-swank-focused-on-staying-present-while-advocating-for-her-twins-exclusive-11975309

"Diapers may contain harmful substances that can alter babies' hormones. They can harm their nervous system or even make them more susceptible to cancer. They can have reproductive problems, asthma or severe rashes. This lack of transparency is a problem because caregivers can't make informed decisions about those products that sit next to their baby's skin or what goes in their bodies for the first few years of their life."

Big thanks to Academy Award-winning actress Hilary Swank for advocating for AB 1901! We're proud to co-sponsor this important bill, which would require the disclosure of intentionally added ingredients in children’s diapers on product packaging and online.

Hilary Swank recently chatted with PEOPLE about her lobbying efforts for the California Bill AB 1901, which calls for more transparency in diaper ingredients. During the conversation, the actress opens up about staying present and advocating for a healthier future for her twins.

“Despite efforts to regulate EDCs in cosmetics, biocidal products, and foods, environmental contamination by these substances continues to rise.”

In a recent study published in Analytica Chimica Acta, researchers used new methods for detecting diverse endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in drinking water to test multiple bottled water brands from Belgium. In short:In total, 17 EDCs were found in the 37 bottled waters tested, including chemi...
