73-year-old Seynabou Male Cissé has witnessed her home country, Senegal, gain independence from France, seen her home region embroiled in conflict, and now reflects on her lifetime dedicated to making peace, freedom and justice a reality.

At 73-years-old, Seynabou Male Cissé witnessed Senegal gain independence from French colonizers in 1960 — and then saw her home region of Casamance descend into armed conflict in 1982.

The Trump administration continues to weaponize foreign assistance with their plan to limit $2 billion in foreign assistance to only Christian organizations. AJWS President and CEO Tawanda shared: "This money simply cannot reach the people in greatest need, including those who are invisible to conservative, faith-based providers."

(RNS) — The largest portion of the funding — $1.4 billion — is expected to support some 2,500 faith-based hospitals and clinics and train and pay tens of thousands of community health workers to provide healthcare services.

On International Day of the World's , we're spotlighting the work of our grantee ACODET, a grassroots coalition of 36 agricultural villages along the Chixoy and Copón rivers in Guatemala. For nearly two decades, ACODET has fought against development and protected the land, water, and way of life of Indigenous communities.

AJWS is committed to supporting Indigenous movements building a world where all people live with safety, justice, and dignity.

As we support grantees around the globe, our team meets them where they are—literally. On a recent staff trip to Kenya, AJWS President and CEO Tawanda Mutasah and In-Country Colleague Gitahi Githuku met with the Ogiek Peoples' Development Program-OPDP, a grassroots group supporting the land rights and cultural preservation of the Ogiek Indigenous community. We're proud to litigate, campaign, and advocate alongside the Ogiek and other Indigenous communities around the world.

We helped pass the Haiti Criminal Collusion Transparency Act, which combats corruption, gang violence and drug trafficking in Haiti—thanks to support from thousands of AJWS supporters. And the AJWS team in Washington, D.C. will keep fighting to make sure the bill is implemented.
