We focus on providing individual mobility care, rather than a general, one size fits all approach to rehabilitation. Like MAC Georgia, all of our partners share our vision of individual needs and rights to specialized care.

Today in west-central Georgia we met with 15 year old CoolKid, Mariam. She had recently outgrew her stroller style chair and required a more robust postural support wheelchair like Participant Assistive Products' Cub.

Delivered this past February, Mariam needed an adjustment to her seating position, easily managed due to the Cub’s adaptive features. Appropriately fitted wheelchairs and routine follow-up care are vital to every CoolKid’s safety and quality of life.

Today, on World Day for Assistive Technology, we recognize the life-changing impact of assistive technology in creating a more inclusive world.

Access to prosthetic limbs, orthotic devices, wheelchairs, and mobility aids can mean the difference between exclusion and opportunity. These tools help people go to school, pursue employment, participate in their communities, and live with greater independence and dignity.

Reporting for ALTSO from Tbilisi with MAC Georgia, AJ Warco, ALTSO's Director of Programs:

"Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit a foster home for children with severe intellectual and physical disabilities in western Georgia.

Operated and co-run in partnership with the government of Georgia and Breath Care For Kids, a Dutch organization operating in Ukraine, Romania, and Georgia providing life sustaining services for children and adolescents.

A sad truth the world over, too many children are abandoned at birth with complex disabilities. With the support of MAC Georgia and ALTSO, these children are receiving the adaptive technology required to eat, breathe, digest, and avoid secondary complications due to a lack of postural support.

We thank you for your continued compassion and generosity of our CoolKids around the world, specifically in Georgia."

Tomorrow is World Assistive Technology Day - a day to celebrate and bring awareness to the Assistive Technology that millions of people need around the world. For our CoolKids, that Assistive Technology is prosthetic limbs, orthotic braces, and appropriately fitted wheelchairs.

Together, we provided CoolKid Aleck with his first pair of orthotics. These braces gave him with the stability he needed to walk independently without support from his mother.

Aleck shared that he is most excited to now walk to school by himself.

Where there is a will, there is a way. Where there is MAC Georgia, there is ALTSO.

Meet 24-year-old Nico and his wife Mariam.

In August 2022, Nico sustained a spinal cord injury in an automobile accident, which took away his past way of life.

In May 2026, we provided Nico with a new Participant Assistive Products wheelchair (the Wildebeest) to support his active lifestyle and daily mobility needs.

With his hard-working spirit and his wife's support, Nico is determined to walk again. He continues to make strides month over month, gaining strength and walking short steps at home with the aid of a donated walker. As entrepreneurs, Nico and Mariam are building toward a brighter future.

As kids in Georgia used to say during hard times when electricity was scarce but would come back in short spurts for TV: “Shuki Movida,” which translates to, “The light has arrived.” Now created into a movement and campaign by MAC for upward mobility and physical independence.
