The Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF) was founded in 2006 after reporter Bob Woodruff was hit by a roadside bomb while covering the war in Iraq. Since then, the Bob Woodruff Foundation has led an enduring call to action for people to stand up for heroes and meet the emerging and long-term needs of today’s veterans. To date, BWF has invested over $80 million to find, fund, shape, and accelerate equitab

le programs that have empowered millions of impacted veterans, service members and their families. After receiving Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for the 6th year in a row, BWF is now in the top 1% of U.S. Additionally, BWF has received the GuideStar’s Platinum Seal of Approval and is an Accredited Charity Seal Holder with the Better Business Bureau. While stationed in Singapore just before Christmas, YN2 Daniel Arteaga-Ceja's grandmother in Mexico passed away. Last-minute travel home would have cost almost $16,000 -- money that he and his wife didn't have.

Thankfully, Daniel’s command encouraged him to apply for emergency travel aid through Coast Guard Mutual Assistance. With their help, Daniel was able to travel to Southern California and be with his family.

"Having the CGMA grant in place gave me peace of mind and allowed me to focus on supporting my family rather than worrying about finances," said Daniel.

This is the kind of impact that’s possible when organizations respond quickly and treat people with care. We’re proud to see partners like Coast Guard Mutual Assistance and Navy Federal Credit Union show up for service members when they're needed most.

Unexpected challenges can place even the most financially responsible military families under tremendous stress.

When a Coast Guard spouse found herself managing the household alone during her husband's deployment while facing her own health challenges, the family’s credit card debt quickly became overwhelming. Through Coast Guard Mutual Assistance, her family received the support they needed to regain stability and move forward with confidence.
