We recently stopped by the Yard Opportunity Shop to visit Monshe, where owner Melissa Groneveldt took a break from making her delicious gluten-and-sugar free cookies to talk with us about her mother's influence on her business and her plans for what's next once her residency at YOS is finished. Watch the full video:

We're proud to share News 12's feature today on Monshe and the Yard Opportunity Shop! Melissa's mission goes beyond selling gluten-free treats: she's determined to create opportunities for fellow women-and-minority entrepreneurs and carve out a space dedicated to feel-good, healthy indulgence.

Behind the business is a deeply personal story. Melissa credits her passion for baking to time spent in the kitchen with her late mother, Monshelia, the inspiration behind the bakery’s name.

75 years ago, the week of April 1 - 8 in 1951 was declared "Brooklyn Navy Yard Week" by Thomas E. Dewey, Governor of the state of New York. The proclamation recognized the Yard at that time as one of the largest industrial plants in the state and the largest shipyard in the country. Today, we continue to carry out this historic legacy as a center for modern industry and manufacturing, and a hub for job creation.

📚🧹 If you're in the middle of spring cleaning, consider donating your new or gently used books to Brooklyn Book Bodega! The process is simple: sort your books, pack them in a labeled box or bag, and bring them to the drop-off station located in the ground floor of Building 77 next to the info desk. Just like that, you've helped provide more children in NYC with access to books! For more information on donating or volunteering, check out https://www.brooklynbookbodega.org/get-involved-1

In 1833, the Naval Lyceum was established at BNY as both an organization and a space intended for learning. It housed a lending library, a reading room, a lecture hall, and a museum displaying a collection of coins, ship models, portraits of former presidents, and more. The organization also produced the first professional naval publication in 1836, the bimonthly Naval Magazine.

Today, visitors can still learn about history, art, and industry through our museum here at Building 92! To book a tour, visit https://www.brooklynnavyyard.org/tours/
