Happy May Day to freelancers everywhere ✊ Today we celebrate the achievements of the labor movement — healthcare, pensions, time off — borne out of the battles fought by previous generations. Too often though freelancers are left out of these conversations, and not afforded the same guarantees of working with dignity. There are millions of us out there, but we can't unite in solidarity if we don't know we're playing for the same team. You might be a freelancer but call yourself something different. An entrepreneur. A small business owner. An independent worker. These all are or can be synonyms for freelancer.

Take our quiz below to learn if you're a freelancer. And then, join us. We're fighting for fair and timely payment, access to healthcare, and safeguard against AI. And we can't do it without you.

In 2017, we passed the Freelance Isn't Free Act, which gave freelancers the right to a written contract, timely and full payment within 30 days, and protection from retaliation.

But that was almost 10 years ago. So what protections do freelancers need in 2026?

At Freelancers Union, we're actively working with freelance workers, legal advocates, and policymakers to build the future of self-employment.

Let us know what protections you still need as a freelancer in the comments ⬇️

With only eight days to go until Tax Day, we're in the home stretch of tax season. But if you need more time to file your taxes, don't panic! You can file for an extension with the IRS. Unfortunately, that does still mean you need to pay by or on April 15 😞 So why file an extension at all? Find out how tax extensions work and what they'll do for you ➡️ and read more at the link below
