Imagine hearing your name called.

You stand up, straighten your stole, and take a breath. Somewhere in the crowd, your people are already getting loud. You try to find them, but you're smiling so hard it's difficult to focus.

You're walking across the stage as a Marcy graduate.

And you're thinking about the version of you who filled out the application. Who wanted something different but couldn't quite picture what it would look like. Who hit "submit" with a few unanswered questions.

Now, you have projects you built. Problems you know how to solve. People who worked through the hard parts beside you, cheering because they know exactly what it took to get here.

You take your certificate. Turn toward the camera. Try to hold it together.

Because you're proud of what you finished. And you can finally picture what comes next.

The interview where you pull up your work and explain how you built it. The offer letter you read three times before calling someone you love. Your first day as a software engineer or data analyst, learning your team's names and opening your laptop at your own desk.

Work that challenges you. A paycheck you can build plans around. The chance to save for your own place, help out at home, or say yes to something that used to feel out of reach.

There's still work ahead. But you're leaving with skills, a community in your corner, and a direction that feels real.
Then you hear your people cheering again, and you're back in the room.

The flags on these graduation stoles honor those roots. The Marcy pin carries another part of the story: freedom and the responsibility that comes with it. For Marcy graduate Shadman Chowdhury, technical training was one part of the transformation. Confidence, resilience, and self-advocacy have been just as important.

Today, his work at IKEA supports digital solutions that serve customers, co-workers, and store operations.

His story is a reminder that career preparation isn't only about what you know. It's also about trusting what you bring, navigating challenges, and advocating for your next opportunity.

Your starting point is part of your story. It doesn't have to decide the ending.

Maybe you started college and stepped away. Maybe you are working a job that covers the bills while the career you want lingers in the back of your mind. Maybe the people around you are following a specific timeline, and yours feels more uncertain.

Who says you have to limit yourself to one career?

After completing Marcy's fellowship, Julian Castro entered a new teaching pathway and spent three years teaching high school computer science. When he was ready to pursue engineering, he returned to Marcy's alumni program for interview preparation and support.

That next chapter led to a fellowship at Ro, then a full-time software engineering role. Julian's story reminds us that meaningful support doesn't end at graduation. It makes room for who you are still becoming.

What should junior engineers learn when AI can write the code?

When Marcy was founded 2019, the job of a junior engineer was predictable, so we focused on teaching Fellows to write code really well. AI has since reshaped our curriculum and our entire educational philosophy.

At LDX3, our co-founder and Executive Director Reuben Ogbonna II shared how we now prepare Fellows to:

→ Interrogate code they didn’t write → Communicate the why behind their solutions → Evaluate trade-offs for security, scalability, and maintainability

These are the skills we believe early-career engineers need to thrive on today’s teams.

Asking for help doesn’t mean you’re weak. Ayema Qureshi learned that at Marcy—and it changed the way she works.�

As one of ten inaugural Data Analytics Fellows in our Nova cohort, Ayema spent a year building real technical fluency in Python, SQL, and Tableau.

But the lesson she carries most isn't a line of code. It's the mindset shift: that knowing how to lean on your community is a form of strength.

Today, Ayema is a Junior Data Analyst at Better Neighbors AI, putting that same curiosity and willingness to ask into every project she touches.

This is what happens when Fellows are surrounded by instructors who show up, a cohort that holds each other down, and a model that treats asking for help as part of the work.

Talent is evenly distributed. Opportunity is not. We're building the connective tissue in between the two.
