What a week it's been for our soon-to-be Summer 2026 Software Engineering graduates!

On Tuesday, all twelve teams in the Applied AI Engineering Residency presented their culminating projects on campus. They took on four real civic challenges brought to them by outside stakeholders: elderly care, educational equity, community leadership, and universal basic income paired with quantum computing.

Most of our fellows had never worked in these domains before, so they scoped the ambiguity, taught themselves unfamiliar territory, and shipped working solutions anyway.

This morning, four of those teams took the stage at Cognizant in Hudson Yards, presenting to a room full of employers, donors, and partners who came out to meet the next generation of AI engineering talent.

To our Gaia and Proxima cohorts, you have been betting on yourselves all year long. In nine days, we get to watch an entire room bet on you in return.

We can’t wait to celebrate you in person!

Michael Oppong leads our Software Engineering Fellowship.

He led Alumni Success here first, which gave him a clear view of what our graduates walk into once the badge is real and the work begins.

He's building the Fellowship backward from that knowledge — employer partnerships, community that outlasts graduation, and real support through the early career years.

We're lucky to have him.

Ifeoma Nwoke, Senior Director of our Data Analytics Fellowship, said this at the Civic Innovation Datathon — and it names the standard we hold our analysts to.

Our fellows train for a full year on SQL, Python, statistical modeling, and data visualization. But technical fluency is the floor. What sets a Marcy analyst apart is the discipline to ask who the data represents, what it leaves out, and what should happen next.

That's judgment. It can't be automated, and it shows up on day one.

If you're building a data team, we should talk.

Before a fellow ever writes a line of code, they have to clear a quieter hurdle: believing a place like Marcy is meant for someone like them.

Meet Shaide Jones, our Enrollment Manager — the person who walks prospective and incoming fellows through admissions and onboarding, and makes sure no one navigates that stretch alone. She's often someone's very first point of contact with Marcy, which means she's often the first to tell someone: yes, this is for you.

Shaide came to enrollment by way of Pepperdine and six years teaching music in Los Angeles — a decade of helping people find notes, and futures, they didn't know they could reach. She still teaches piano and voice on the side. When she's not at a keyboard, she's needlepointing or hunting for the perfect vintage find.

She says she loves helping people reach goals they once thought were out of reach. She's being modest about her part in it — for a lot of our fellows, that reach starts with her.

Someone is building the next decade of technology right now—the tools, platforms, and systems that will shape how we live. The only real question is who gets to be in the room.

Too often, that room stays small. And when the people building tech all come from the same few places, the future they design leaves too many of us out.

That's why we do this. We believe the people closest to the problems should be the ones solving them, and that the industry loses something every time it overlooks talent it wasn't looking for.

Marcy is a tuition-free, one-year fellowship in Brooklyn that trains young adults ages 18–24 to become software engineers and data analysts. No experience required. No debt incurred. Just a real shot at a career that can change your trajectory and shape your family’s future.

The tech sector needs your creativity, your voice, and your vision. We're here to help you bring all three to the table.

Debt, or a dead end.

For too many brilliant young people, those are the only two doors on offer: borrow a fortune for a degree, or take the cheaper route that rarely leads to a real career.

Our Co-Founders, Reuben Ogbonna and Maya Bhattacharjee-Marcantonio, started The Marcy Lab School to create a third path.

One tuition-free year in Brooklyn. Software engineering or data analytics, taught with rigor and care. A real on-ramp to careers that build stability, wealth, and choice — for our fellows and the families behind them.

The brilliance is already here. We built Marcy to meet it.

The person who greets you at the door often sets the tone for everything after.

Meet Dianette Diaz, our Operations Manager — the steady hand behind daily campus life, working across operations, finance, and HR so fellows and staff can focus on what matters. She brings a background in hospitality, healthcare, and education, and a gift for finding practical answers to complicated problems.

Outside of work, she's with her big Dominican family, dancing to the music she loves, and being outmaneuvered by a French bulldog with a lot of personality.

She wishes more people knew how much support our fellows receive here.
We'd add: she's a big part of why it feels that way.

Data can tell you what happened. It takes something more to ask why — and for whom.

Our Data Analytics Fellows learn Python, SQL, and machine learning. But the deeper training is in questioning: who is represented here, who is missing, and what does this actually mean for the people behind every data point.

That's the kind of thinking the world needs from its analysts.
Wisdom from our Co-Founder, Maya Bhattacharjee-Marcantonio. 💜

You walk in a stranger. You leave with people who know you by name.

That’s what a year at Marcy does. Somewhere between the code and the late debugging sessions, you find a community that stays yours long after graduation.

Tuition-free. One year. Brooklyn. Software engineering and data analytics for young adults 18–24. No experience required.

Walk in ready to change your life. Walk out with your people.

Our first-ever schoolwide Hackathon with Envelope was amazing!

📍Comment “apps” on this post and we’ll send you a link to check out all 14 of the working apps our fellows and alumni built in a single day.

The morning of the competition, some of the participants said they’d never done a Hackathon before. By 5PM that same day, every single one of them had shipped a working product.

To every team that planned, built, and demoed in front of a room of judges and peers: congratulations! You showed us what this community can do together, in real time.

Huge thanks to Envelope and Miranda Kapin for making this possible!
