Vanderbilt YMCA

Vanderbilt YMCA For Youth Development. For Healthy Living. For Social Responsibility. We’re Here for good. We’re here for you and your family. We’re here for the community.

It’s been the signature phrase of New York City’s YMCA since early 2008, and it describes the Y’s commitment to building the foundations of—and strengthening—our communities, through nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving community health and well-being and providing opportunities to give back and support neighbors. We’re here for good.

Everyone deserves the chance to feel confident and safe in the water.

It was inspiring to welcome local leaders into the pool to take part lessons and also hear firsthand how access to swim education can change lives.

Every lesson helps build confidence, teaches lifesaving skills, and empowers New Yorkers to stay safe in and around the water.

Today is Lifeguard Appreciation Day! We celebrate the extraordinary individuals in our branches who do far more than watch the water. At the Y, lifeguards provide safety at our pools, welcoming New Yorkers of all ages to build skills, gain confidence, and have fun in a supportive environment 🏊

Ready to level up your incline dumbbell press technique? Staten Island Broadway YMCA fitness instructor Daniele is here to show you how to safely lift the weight and incorporate four-second negatives. The “negative” is the lowering phase of an exercise. When doing an incline dumbbell press, it’s when the dumbbells move from the top of the press back down toward your chest. This part of the lift is as important as the press itself—it’s one of the best ways to build strength, muscle, and control 💪

Find your Y and the routine that works for you with a supportive community to cheer you on through the link in our bio.

What does it mean to stand up for your community?

For Layla, a participant in our Teens Take the City (TTC) Youth Leadership Program, it starts with using your voice.

As Layla shares, if you care about your community, don’t be afraid to speak up about issues that matter. Civic engagement isn’t reserved for elected officials or community leaders. It starts with neighbors, young people, families, and everyday residents who care enough to get involved and advocate for the people around them.

At the YMCA of Greater New York, we believe strong communities are built from the ground up. Through programs like Teens Take the City, young people develop the confidence, knowledge, and leadership skills to become active participants in shaping their neighborhoods and creating positive change.

When we empower young people to raise their voices today, we’re helping build stronger, healthier communities for tomorrow.

We closed out another incredible school year with Vandy Honors! 🎉 This year's VandyChella celebration brought our participants together for an evening of fun, recognition, and community as we celebrated all they accomplished throughout the year.

A special thank you to Andrew "Combo" Salop for sharing his inspiring story and encouraging our young people to pursue their goals with confidence, perseverance, and purpose.

At the YMCA, every participant is a winner, and Vandy Honors gave us the opportunity to celebrate those who demonstrated exceptional leadership, dedication, and growth. Congratulations to all of our honorees. We are so proud of you and can't wait to see what you'll achieve next!

Our Leaders Club participants had an unforgettable weekend at Mini Rally 2026 at Frost Valley YMCA! Inspired by this year's theme, "Wicked: Changing for Good," they stepped outside their comfort zones, built new friendships, and strengthened their leadership skills alongside YMCA teens from across the region.

From zip lining and fly fishing to meaningful connections and unforgettable memories, the weekend was filled with opportunities to grow, lead, and thrive. We are so proud of our Vanderbilt YMCA Leaders Club for representing our community with enthusiasm and heart!

Program participants had the opportunity to visit the Mastercard headquarters for a meaningful career exploration experience focused on financial decision-making, leadership, and professional growth.

Youth learned more about Mastercard’s mission and connected with, gaining valuable insight into future career pathways and opportunities.

Experiences like these help empower young people to build confidence, expand their perspectives, and imagine what’s possible for their future.
