Southerners aren’t the enemy. Throwing us away means throwing away some of the most vulnerable and marginalized people in the country. We’ll still continue to fight back and do the work regardless but hating the South means your politics are myopic,to say it kindly. There must be solidarity with Southern people if we are to ever live in a country that stands up against fascist politicians and billionaires, where all people have bodily autonomy, where racial justice looks like actual justice and freedom, a world where trans and q***r people aren’t demonized, where rich pedophiles are held accountable, where the working class can survive, and we become something more than “climate resilient” and live in reciprocity with nature.

We’re excited to invite y’all to a special Pride Month fundraiser for Fixin’ to Stay on Friday, June 5th from 8 PM–10 PM at .avl in Asheville, NC!

Fixin’ to Stay is our upcoming documentary which challenges stereotypes about the Southeast by centering q***r and trans Southerners who are building q***r power, mutual aid networks, and progress across the region.

We’ll be screening our newest reel from the film alongside the trailer for Whistle Down Wind by , a q***r coming-of-age feature directed by and filmed entirely in Western North Carolina, with support from Campaign for Southern Equality, Cucalorus, the New Orleans Film Festival, and more.

Transilient has previously reached national and international audiences through our traveling trans documentary project, with coverage in Refinery29, OUT, an.schlage, Buzzfeed, and more. We’ve always been committed to skill-sharing and creating pathways for trans and q***r creators to break into documentary storytelling. The fundraiser helps us to keep doing this work!

Not all visibility is good visibility.

Too often, trans people are made visible through harm or someone else’s narrative. That kind of visibility flattens us.

Good visibility is different. It’s us telling our own stories. Being seen fully. Changing how people understand the many aspects of our lives outside of a single identity.

This Trans Day of Visibility, support the kind that gets it right.

Fixin’ to Stay is trans led with a fully LGBTQ Southern team that tells real stories about q***r and trans life, mutual aid, and power in the South. We’re working to shift the narrative about the South and who lives here, not repeat it.

Help us keep doing it the right way. Donate and share today through the link in our bio or Venmo: @ transilient.
