Today is National Diabetes Awareness Day!!!

Today is National Diabetes Awareness Day, and we want to recognize the incredible strength and bravery our daughter shows every single day living with Type 1 Diabetes. 💙

Shots, site changes, finger pricks, carb counting, managing blood sugars through the toughest situations… she faces it all with courage beyond her years. Being diagnosed at just 7 years old forced her to grow up fast, and we knew nothing about diabetes at the time. But watching her become the mature, responsible, resilient little lady she is today is truly indescribable.

To anyone living with this disease—or loving someone who does—we’re thinking of you today, too. You are stronger than you know. 💙

A normal life would be so much easier, but my body chose this life by attacking itself and making my pancreas stop working.

Oh, how all of us T1D's wish our bodies were normal. We might blame God for this life when we got diagnosed, but after living with it we will never fully understand why. We just know that we were chosen to liven this difficult life because God knew we could handle it and become one heck of a T1D Warrior!

This is T1D at its finest. Last night, Belle was reading high before and after I changed her pump. It's a 🎢 we are either low or we are high and no matter what she can never have a break from this! All my other T1D mommas know what we are fighting.

🩸Type 1 vs Type 2🩸

Cause:
🩸Type 1 = autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing cells.
🩸Type 2 = insulin resistance / decreased insulin production over time.

Insulin production/use:
🩸Type 1 = little/no insulin produced → always need external insulin.
🩸Type 2 = insulin produced but not used effectively (and may decline) → may or may not need insulin.

Onset and age:
🩸Type 1 often earlier onset (children/teens) though adult onset possible.
🩸Type 2 more common in older adults (though younger onset is increasing).

Dr. Tommy Martin is spot on. We hear people talk about T1D like it was something we did to our selves. This is why we need to educate the world on what T1D is and how it happens. Know what your talking about before you comment on something that is growing in numbers around the world. Not only in children but adults as well!
