Yesterday we hosted the Tenderloin Youth Safety Zone team retreat with the SF Planning TCAP team, as well as, Mike Vuong and Esan Looper from the Tenderloin Community Benefit District.

As our plans come closer to reality we spent the morning:
➡️ Reflecting on the intersection of perfection and progress
➡️ Learning from other collaborative structures
➡️ Mapping our goals and priorities to community partners
➡️ Modeling potential Youth Safety Zone structures (with Legos, chenille sticks and more, of course!) that balance power, community voices, implementation, accountability and alignment.

Looking back at how far we've come, the momentum that carries us forward, along with the complexities of the process, we see our ideas coming together in new and innovative ways.

SEEDing Stronger Together Update 3/4
We believe that collaboration is sustained by following a collective impact model.

SEEDing Stronger Together brings together decade of experience to facilitate:

Establishing a common agenda
Building a shared Evaluation system
Building Mutually Reinforcing activities
Cultivating continuous communication
Backbone Support Operations

Collective impact doesn't happen by accident — it's designed, one relationship and one shared measure at a time.

SEEDing Stronger Together Update 2/4

This spring, as plans began formalize, SEED Impact led youth focus groups to develop the brand and visual identity of the Tenderloin Youth Safety Zone. We worked with a youth intern in the community to build the website that will be the landing page for this project’s work.

The Youth Safety Zone is built by three pillars:
Safe and Clean streets
Third Space Activations
Connected Youth.

We're proud to help facilitate that collaboration — turning shared commitment into a coordinated zone the whole community can rely on.

We invite you to follow the Tenderloin Youth Safety Zone on social media and learn more about the movement online: www.tlyouthsafetyzone.com

SEEDing Stronger Together Update 1/4

Good collaboration doesn't start with a map. It starts with listening.

Over the last year and a half, we've been doing exactly that — asking, “What can we do stronger together?”

Big, systems-level change rarely happens through one organization alone. These conversations have brought together City leaders, Youth leaders, and Community Voices (including youth) to dream, strategize, and coordinate.

The Tenderloin Youth Safety Zone is the tangible result: a defined area where that groundwork becomes a real, physical safety net for youth of all ages. Where a neighborhood can move from protection to possibilities.

It's slow, intentional work — and it's exactly how lasting collective impact gets built.

250 years ago, a group of people bet on an idea: that a nation could govern itself.

It wasn't perfect then. It isn't perfect now. The promise of that idea has always depended on who gets to be part of it — and there's still real work to close that gap.

That work is being done every day by nonprofit leaders and the communities they serve: closing gaps, building trust, and making sure more people have a voice in shaping what comes next. Democracy isn't just what happens at the ballot box — it's built in the everyday work of showing up for each other.

This 4th of July, as we mark 250 years, we're grateful for the changemakers still doing that building. Happy Independence Day. 🎆
