This week’s Positive News is all about the numbers. Whether it’s breaking records, discovering new species, or starting a revolution, every big change begins with one person willing to make a difference, learn more, and inspire others to join in. From 149 new species discovered to 1.3 million plastic bottles collected, none of it could have happened without someone taking that first step.

Sea turtles have been crossing our oceans for 100 million years. They navigate the vast blue by reading Earth’s magnetic field, carrying an ancient sense of direction we can only marvel at. From their first moments as hatchlings, they brave impossible odds and set out alone into a world of currents, predators, and open ocean. So maybe we should listen when these ancient travelers tell us: you’re doing amazing.

There’s no need to dream about some perfect world somewhere else when this one is already full of wonder.

From coral reefs teeming with life to ancient forests, wild coastlines, and creatures that seem almost too extraordinary to exist, Earth is filled with beauty beyond imagination.

New discoveries, resilient reefs, and unforgettable wildlife encounters are painting a hopeful picture of what’s ahead. The future of our blue planet is still ours to protect, and there’s plenty worth celebrating!!

The monsoon season helped protect parts of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef from coral bleaching, with coral cover increasing by 16.7% in the northern region and 10.2% in the central region since last year.

A resilient seagrass species, most commonly known as beaked tasselweed, could help kick-start the recovery of degraded meadows following the discovery that it can survive severe environmental disruption. When harsh conditions cause the plants to disappear, their seeds remain dormant in the sediment and rapidly regenerate when conditions improve.

A 2026 scientific expedition to Angola’s remote Lisima Plateau uncovered new species, including eight dragonflies, three grasshoppers, and over 60 moths and butterflies.

Hundreds of cownose rays were spotted swimming off the coasts of Southampton, New York this August. Drones are increasingly helping scientists spot, count, and study marine species from above while giving us a closer, non-invasive look at wildlife.

Growing in a cold, shaded Alpine meadow in Germany’s Allgäu region, this yew tree has survived more than 1,100 years of change, reminding us that even in a rapidly changing world, some life just keeps keepin’ on.

The bee buzzes. The dolphin swims. The forest grows. Life simply exists.

Our greatest privilege is being able to stop, look around, and wonder. And our greatest responsibility is resolving every day to fight for it all.

Eco-grief is something many of us are feeling: sadness, anger, and frustration over the loss of habitats that sheltered biodiversity we haven't even had the chance to discover yet. Don't push that feeling away. Let it remind you why this work matters, and channel that energy into the relentless determination needed to protect what we still have.
