Policies impacting methadone treatment are being debated right now—and the stakes are high.
H.R. 5629 threatens to roll back critical OTP treatment flexibilities that have expanded access to care nationwide. These changes — made permanent by SAMHSA in 2024 — have allowed providers to meet patients where they are and deliver more effective, patient-centered treatment.
If reversed, patients could lose access to:
- Earlier take-home doses based on clinical stability
- Telehealth admissions via audio-visual platforms
- Appropriate initial methadone dosing
Mobile units serving rural and underserved communities
- This is a step backward at a time when access to treatment is more important than ever.
Join us in urging Congress to oppose H.R. 5629 and protect access to lifesaving care.
