Every child deserves a beating heart. 💙

Save the date: on Wednesday, November 11, Surgeons of Hope invites you to our Annual Charity Gala — A Beat of Hope — at The Robert in New York City, for a cocktail reception and seated dinner in support of our mission.

The Gala is the primary source of funding for our programs, and in 2027 alone, that funding will power 10 surgical missions across Latin America and 80 life-saving cardiac procedures for children who would otherwise go without care. It also sustains something just as vital: training local medical teams in ICU care, echocardiography, ECMO, and more — so hope keeps beating long after our surgeons leave.

To date, together we've made possible more than 2,412 lives saved and 1,271+ medical professionals trained.

A heart no larger than a finger. A team working with breathtaking precision. A baby who came through beautifully. 🩺❤️

This June, Surgeons of Hope performed 14 open-heart surgeries across Honduras, Paraguay, and Costa Rica — on patients ranging from newborns to teenagers. Three missions. Three countries. Fourteen second chances at life.

We also held a board retreat in New York, where we refined our strategic plan and deepened our collective commitment to expanding access to pediatric cardiac care across the region.

Every surgery. Every life. It all adds up to hope. 💛

Over the weekend, the Surgeons of Hope board of directors came together—some traveling from far away ✈️, others joining virtually—with a shared commitment to the future.

It’s deeply inspiring to work alongside such dedicated individuals, whose willingness to go the extra mile reflects their genuine compassion. Together, we’re striving to gather resources and expand our mission to touch more families’ lives and support local medical teams.

🌟 This week, we had the privilege of visiting Victoria, who has made incredible strides since her Tetralogy of Fallot surgery in July 2024 at Children's National Hospital in Costa Rica! 💖 Her mom, Christiam, shared her relief as Victoria's scar becomes a symbol of triumph, and the diagnosis recedes into the background.

Victoria is living life to the fullest, just like any other child! 🎉 We celebrated her journey with family, feeling immense gratitude for the amazing work done by her doctors and for all the children in the region. Witnessing her vibrant spirit was truly heartwarming! 💞

As our five-day mission in Paraguay was drawing to a close, we were caught off guard by a 🆘 critical emergency case that arrived unexpectedly.

Julio, just 12 days old and so tiny we could barely hear his cry, was rushed into the cardiac center by paramedics for urgent evaluation by local cardiologists. The diagnosis was heartbreaking and clear: he needed immediate open-heart surgery to correct his defect, or he would not survive another few days. Witnessing the team, with remarkable courage, prepare and perform the surgery this morning was truly inspiring. Without our surgeons' swift intervention today, Julio’s chances of survival would have been nearly impossible. We are deeply grateful for the chance to make a difference at such a precious, fleeting moment in his young life. 🙌

We wish him a speedy recovery so he can go home with his mother.

🚀 This week marks the start of our exciting missions for 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣6️⃣, as we join forces with our esteemed medical friends in Paraguay and the families of patients to save the lives of six children.

🤩 We are thrilled to be complemented by Marisa, head of the cardiac nursing department at Austral’s University Hospital in Argentina, who brings invaluable expertise. Our goal is to refresh and update local nursing protocols crucial for caring for recently operated patients.

💛 These missions aim not only to reduce waiting lists but also to empower local nurses with the knowledge and confidence to independently deliver quality care. This week, we anticipate inspiring and training approximately 20 nurses, making a meaningful difference in their professional journey.
