Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association TSRA is dedicated to protecting and preserving free flowing streams in TN

In June 1966, two friends, Robert Miller and Tony Statler, were floating the Collins River, fishing for trout. They had heard about the Corps of Engineers' plans to channelize the river and said to each other, "We can't let this happen." In September, a group, including Miller, Statler, Don Bodley, Bill Griswold, Bill Mitchum and Bill and Lee Russell (of Tennessee Citizens for Wilderness Planning [TCWP]) gathered at Blakemore Methodist Church in Nashville and formed the Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association.

Saturday, nearly 60 friends gathered to celebrate TSRA’s 60 years of river conservation.

Despite the rain, 12 past presidents including 2 founders showed up making our shrimp boil special.

Grateful for the people and passion behind six decades of protecting Tennessee’s rivers. Thank you to everyone who pitched in. Here’s to the next 60 years!

Young river stewards in action!

For two years, Girl Scout Junior Troop #1204 has met every other week at Aspen Grove Park in Franklin, right alongside the Harpeth River. Along the way, the girls developed a love for the river—and began noticing litter along the greenway.

They learned that litter on the ground can make its way into our waterways, polluting the water and harming the plants and animals that call these places home.

For their Bronze Award project, the girls decided to do something about it. They co-wrote, acted in, and filmed a five-minute video about keeping our local waterways clean. It starts with a little comedy and ends with simple, kid-friendly tips that anyone can use to help protect our rivers and streams.

We’re proud to serve as Troop 1204’s community partner and to support these young river stewards as they turn what they’ve learned into action.
