Nine years ago today, Music City Drum Corps lost one of our own: Finis Sparkman.
During the 2017 season, Finis was completing his age-out season in Drum Corps International as a snare drummer with Music City. Though Finis was not with us long, he touched the lives of many with his love, kindness and passion.
Today, his legacy lives on through the Finis Sparkman Memorial Scholarship, created to honor Finis’ love of music, his passion for the activity, the value he placed in education, and the everlasting impact he made within the DCI community.
Every year on this day, members and alumni of Music City come together to remember Finis’ life and the true meaning of drum corps he taught everyone that season.
Drum corps is about family, learning to see the good in every day, striving to be the best you can be, and loving the people around you so warmly that they strive for greatness within themselves. Though we are not together physically today to commemorate Finis’ life, his memory remains in each of our hearts, always.
