Are you ready to get to work building power for the tenant class?

Join MTU on Monday, November 9th @ 6PM on the fourth floor of the Library for a Tenant Power Orientation event for the newest batch of tenant leaders in Western Montana.

We’ll hear from leaders who’ve emerged out of organized trailer parks and apartment buildings, we’ll have dinner, listen to a brief presentation on MTU, get to know one another,

and then we’ll invite you to get to work.

There is power out here for those of us bold enough to work for it and claim it.

Meet the 2026 Union School Cohort! 🧡

This week we’re introducing Julia LaTray, an artist in Missoula, MT.

⭐️Why do you organize with Missoula Tenants Union?

I joined Missoula Tenant’s Union because I live in a trailer park. Trailer parks are vulnerable to being purchased by predatory out-of-state private equity firms. These firms are known for jacking lot rents way up, while providing bare minimum maintenance.

⭐️What about Union School are you most excited about?

I want to get really knowledgeable about the tactics tenants in our communities can use to build collective power and fight back against unscrupulous landlords.

⭐️What’s a material change or improvement you’re fighting for?

I am fighting for affordable, well-maintained housing for all Missoulians.

The results are in 🏠

From Jan-April 2026, Front Step Community Land Trust and the Missoula Tenants Union surveyed Missoula renters through direct mail, door-to-door canvassing, community tabling, and partner outreach.

We received 1,091 responses from current and former Missoula renters, a large and diverse sample offering meaningful insight into the renter experience.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing key takeaways and direct quotes from Missoula renters about their experiences.

For now, here are some stats on the renters we heard from!

Send us back to UNION school! 🧡

Out-of-state private equity companies are buying up some of the last affordable housing in Montana - trailer parks and apartment buildings. They’re raising the rent, so we’re building collective power and wielding it to get our demands met.

Union members at Travois Village and Harvey’s Mobile Home Park have successfully signed collectively bargained leases stopping extraneous rent hikes and securing maintenance needs in their parks. While this is an incredible win for over 300 neighbors in Missoula County, our fight for universal tenant protections isn’t over til it’s over - and it’s never fu***ng over.

Help us send leaders from property unions across our community to Union School where we will continue to develop the skills we need to ensure more demands are met and more neighbors have secured safe, stable and affordable housing.
