Great Pyrenees Rescue, Montana 501(c)(3) rescue saving Great Pyrenees and Pyr mixes across Montana and PNW. Volunteer-run, with a kennel tech providing daily care at our Missoula facility.

We help abandoned pyrs find loving homes. Fees: Puppies $400, Adults $275, Seniors $100. We operate under the guidance and umbrella of National Great Pyrenees Rescue, a 501C3 non-profit organization and in 2023 became a 501C3 ourselves. There is an adoption fee on the dogs that come through our organization - even though we are all volunteers and do not receive pay, we have expenses for the dogs -

vet bills, transport is not always free, sometimes we provide feed for foster homes, even printer ink - but we keep everything to a minimum, including our adoption fees. Our "standard" fee is $275, it may be less for a dog who will require meds or is significantly older, would be more for a puppy, usually $400, etc. We do require adequate fencing - yes, these dogs like to roam - and that is the point of the fencing requirement.

💔🐾 THE DOGS NOBODY WANTS 🐾💔

Every rescue has them.

The seniors.
The bonded pairs.
The overweight dogs.
The medical cases.
The dogs who don’t photograph well.
The dogs who get passed over again and again.

Meanwhile, puppies and young fluffy dogs often find homes quickly.

And honestly?

Some of our favorite dogs have been the ones nobody wanted.

The 10-year-old senior who just wants a family.
The bonded pair that refuses to give up on each other.
The medical dog who doesn’t know they’re “broken.”
The overweight dog who is trying their best.

These dogs don’t know they’re being overlooked.

They just keep waiting.

And waiting.

And hoping.

Sometimes the dog everyone scrolls past is the very dog that would change your life.

More often than not…

Your dog is HAVING a hard time.

A lot of behaviors people get frustrated with are actually symptoms of something else:

🐾 Fear
🐾 Stress
🐾 Pain
🐾 Confusion
🐾 Lack of training
🐾 Lack of exercise
🐾 Lack of enrichment

One of the most important lessons rescue has taught us is this:

Behavior is communication.

Sometimes a dog isn’t being stubborn.
Sometimes they’re overwhelmed.

Sometimes they’re not being difficult.
Sometimes they’re uncomfortable.

The more we listen, the better we understand them.

We’ve seen countless dogs labeled as “bad dogs” turn into amazing companions once their needs were finally being met.

💜🐾 NYMERIA UPDATE 🐾💜

Miss Nymeria is absolutely rocking her hydrotherapy sessions! 🥹

Week by week, we’re seeing more movement. While she still has a road ahead of her, she continues to make steady progress and is proving just how resilient she is.

Recovery isn’t always fast, but Nymeria is showing us that small steps add up to big victories 💛

Thank you to everyone who has been cheering her on and keeping her in your thoughts. We can’t wait to keep sharing her journey with you!

🏔️🤍 DANNY & SWEETIE HAVE OFFICIALLY MADE IT TO MONTANA! 🤍🏔️

After a long journey from Nevada, Danny and Sweetie are officially Montana residents 🐾🥹

As expected, the trip was a lot for these two. When they first arrived, they were understandably anxious and unsure of their new surroundings. Moving, traveling, losing your home, and adjusting to a completely new environment is a lot for any dog.

And as you can see from the photo… Danny decided that digging might be the best way to deal with all those big feelings 😂💛

We believe a lot of it was nerves and stress from the long trip, and he was trying his best to figure out what was happening and where he belonged.

The good news? Overnight made a HUGE difference. Both dogs have already started to settle in, relax, and decompress. Sometimes all a dog needs is a little time, patience, and a safe place to exhale.

This is exactly why foster homes are so important. We’re incredibly grateful to their foster for giving them the space, understanding, and love they need while they adjust to this major life change 🤍

For now, we’re letting them settle in, catch their breath, and learn that they’re safe. More updates to come as we get to know these sweet pups better!

🏡🤍 AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: 6 PYRENEES/ANATOLIAN PUPPIES LOOKING FOR HOMES 🤍🏡

Well… sometimes accidents happen.

We recently took in 6 Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix puppies from an accidental litter, and they are officially looking for their future homes!

The good news? Mom is being spayed this week, and dad has already been neutered, so there won’t be any more surprise litters in the future 💛

🐾 3 males
🐾 3 females
🐾 Approximately 10 weeks old (almost 2.5 months)
🐾 Great Pyrenees x Anatolian Shepherd mixes

Some of the puppies have the shorter Anatolian-style coats, while others have the fluffier Pyrenees look. They’re a pretty adorable mix of both breeds 🥹

We just received them today, so we’re still getting everything organized and scheduling vet care. Because of that, they will not be going home immediately.

However…

📣 If you are already an approved adopter and have been waiting for a puppy, please reach out! We can begin discussing placements and placing holds pending their veterinary appointments.

📣 If you are not yet approved, now is the time to apply!

As cute as they are, these puppies will grow into LARGE livestock guardian breed dogs. We are looking for homes that understand and appreciate breeds like Great Pyrenees and Anatolians, including their independence, intelligence, and guardian instincts.

🐾🏔️ LOOKING FOR AN ADVENTURE BUDDY? MEET BUDDY! 🏔️🐾

Buddy is still waiting for his forever home, and honestly, we’re a little surprised 🥹

This young Shepherd/Pyrenees mix is a happy, easy-going guy who is ready to find his people. While he may have some Pyr in him, he is definitely not your typical Great Pyrenees, and we’re not looking for a traditional Pyr home for him.

Buddy would thrive with an active person or family who wants a companion for:
🥾 Hiking
🏃 Running
🚗 Car rides
🐾 Adventures

Or maybe a playful dog friend to romp around with! He absolutely enjoys other dogs and would love a canine playmate.

🐾 Approximately 1 year old
🐾 Neutered
🐾 UTD on vaccines
🐾 Smart and eager to learn
🐾 Loves car rides
🐾 Friendly and affectionate
🐾 Good listener and eager to learn

Buddy is still young and learning, so he’ll benefit from continued training and structure. He walks okay on a leash but can pull when excited, and loud noises like thunder can make him a little nervous.

More than anything, Buddy just needs someone willing to invest in him. He has all the ingredients to be an incredible companion dog and is ready to leave rescue life behind 🤍

🍻🐾 BENEFIT BREW NIGHT COUNTDOWN: 12 DAYS TO GO! 🐾🍻

In just 12 days, we’ll gather at Lolo Peak Brewery to help dogs like Obi-Wan, Freya, Nymeria, Xena, and so many others who needed someone to say “yes” 💛

Sometimes people ask where the money goes.

It goes to:
🐾 Emergency vet visits
🐾 Medical rehabilitation
🐾 Vaccines and preventative care
🐾 Grooming neglected dogs
🐾 Food and supplies
🐾 Transportation across multiple states
🐾 Giving dogs a second chance when they have nowhere else to go

This year alone, we’ve already helped place 59 dogs into loving homes 🥹

But for every dog adopted, there are more waiting. More surrender requests. More shelter dogs. More medical cases. More dogs needing help.

That’s why this event matters.

🤍🐾 XENA IS READY FOR HER SECOND CHANCE 🐾🤍

This sweet girl came into rescue weighing well over 200 pounds. She had been loved, but unfortunately her physical needs had fallen behind, leaving her severely overweight and uncomfortable 💔

The good news? Xena is now vaccinated, spayed, and officially looking for a forever home willing to continue her weight-loss journey 🥹

This won’t happen overnight. Healthy weight loss takes time, consistency, proper nutrition, and regular exercise. But we know Xena is worth it.

And honestly? She doesn’t ask for much.

🐾 Good with dogs
🐾 Good with cats
🐾 Happy being inside or outside
🐾 More couch potato than athlete 😂
🐾 Easy-going and low maintenance

Now, we’ll be honest… Xena can be a little grumbly when you first meet her. But if you happen to have a few treats in your pocket, she warms up surprisingly fast 🤣🍖

And really, given how uncomfortable carrying all that extra weight must feel, we can’t blame her. Once she realizes you’re a friend, she’s a very sweet girl who just wants to relax and enjoy life.

Xena isn’t looking for mountain-climbing adventures. She’s looking for someone willing to help her continue getting healthier, take her on regular walks, and give her a soft place to land while she works toward becoming her best self 🤍
