Hey Yall,
It's Krystal Two Bulls here! Ive been meaning to make this announcement since January 1st! lol However, as life goes, things got busy and The Rona hit! lol I was awarded the Lannan Foundation's Cultural Freedom Fellowship to further my work with Voices of the Sacred around decolonization, anti-militarism, environmental justice and the Rights' of Indigenous Peoples. I recently stepped off staff from About Face: Veterans Against War and am now the full time Director of Voices of the Sacred.
Voices of the Sacred has been a long time dream and vision of mine. I started out back in 2015 (and even a few years before that) with expressive arts workshops for youth. My original thought was to give voice to those that we as Native Peoples hold the most sacred, our youth. Often times, our youth are the most silenced in this world. But to me, they hold the key to our future as a People.
Over the years we have evolved and I have been blessed with many experiences nationally and globally. Voices has moved homes several times as an affiliate and program of larger organizations, but has now found a home with the NDN Collective. We are moving to get our own 501c3 status, but for now, are honored to be a part of the NDN Collective family.
As a result of my experiences working with youth, organizers and veterans from around the world, I expanded Voices of the Sacred's mission to focus on these two demographics. Youth hold the key to our future and have a need for experience, skills and knowledge to create that future. Veterans have experience, skills and knowledge that needs to be translated to serving our communities. I know that if I find a way to invest in these two groups in our community, they can create the change we seek. Our new mission is to develop the next generation of healthy organizers from Native Youth and Native Veterans.
I know some have been seeing our mutual aid work, delivering Emergency Care Packages to the elderly, immunocompromised and Relatives with no access to resources and no vehicle in our Northern Cheyenne communities. This is just one example of what veterans and youth are capable of. Mutual aid work is necessary in these times, but is not the change we seek. As organizers we will strive for lasting change and growth. Our focus will be healing, developing skills and knowledge to develop systems that serve the People and gaining the needed experience to create a just world our Ancestors will be proud of.
Néá'ėšemeno to everyone that has invested in and believed in me over the years. The people who have guided me, mentored me and picked me up when I made inevitable mistakes. It is now my turn to to invest in and believe in our youth and veterans the way they deserve. Please follow us, stay tuned and get ready for this crazy ride! ❤
