A Montana story comes to life in a whole new way. Next weekend, we’re proud to join Opera Montana for the premiere of “A River Runs Through It,” bringing orchestra, opera, and one of Montana’s most beloved stories together on stage. A big weekend for our youngest music lovers!

Tonight (Fri 9/18), students and their families are invited to experience the excitement of a full orchestra at Student Night at Dress Rehearsal, completely FREE! Get a behind-the-scenes look as the Missoula Symphony prepares Masterworks I: America 250.

Then Saturday morning, bring the younger crew to Symphony Kids at the Library! This free mini-concert is designed especially for preschool and elementary-aged children, with Symphony musicians, a brass ensemble and plenty of opportunities to discover how music is made.

You know America the Beautiful. But you've probably never heard it quite like this. Composer Joan Tower took that familiar melody and built something much more complicated around it, moments of beauty interrupted by tension, dissonance and struggle. Yet the melody keeps returning, changed but still recognizable.

There's an incredible story behind the piece, too. Made in America was commissioned by 65 orchestras representing all 50 states and went on to earn Tower a GRAMMY.

For America 250, it's hard to imagine a piece more fitting. Hear Made in America this weekend with the Missoula Symphony Orchestra.
