Trees need helping hands. That means we need to plant their replacements, today.Trees for Missoula is committed to ensuring that happens.

The big, beautiful trees that line Missoula’s streets, adorn our parks and shade our homes were planted some 80 years or more ago, and most have life spans of around 50 to 100 years. So our town remains green, cool, healthy and beautiful. To do that, we’re assisting the city of Missoula with an urban tree census, spreading education on proper pruning and care, and encouraging people to plant, plant and plant some more.

Join the State of Montana Arboretum committee for the final tour of the season! Forestry professor Alina Cansler will lead participants on a tour of vibrant fall trees across the arboretum. Bring your pumpkin spice latte and a friend for this cozy autumn romp through the trees!

Parking is free after 5:00 PM on the UM campus.

32 trees in the ground! Thanks to rockstar volunteers, neighborhood residents, and the Missoula Parks and Recreation Urban Forestry department, last week we planted trees public rights-of-way and private property on the Westside and Franklin to the Fort. Little by little, we're helping to build more diverse & climate resilient tree canopy across Missoula. We have so much gratitude for all of our community members who make this possible. 💚

Join us this Saturday, October 3, 10:00am - 12:00pm to plant two trees in Burns St Commons Courtyard and learn about community land trusts!

Burns Street Commons is located in Missoula's historic Westside neighborhood and is part of Front Step's community land trust housing.

On Saturday, we'll demonstrate how to plant a tree and discuss how to care for your trees after planting. The newly planted trees will offer more shade and fruit to residents of Burns St Commons!

We invite you to join us for a unique First Friday art show & reception this Friday, October 2nd, 5-8 PM, 131 E. Main St.

Cool Futures is a a one-night art show and month-long exhibition showcasing work by local artists sharing their vision for a future where our community is resilient to extreme heat and other impacts of climate change.

See you Friday for an evening of art, snacks & drinks, and merriment!

Want to learn about green infrastructure? You, too, can plant climate resilience at your own home!

Join us on Monday, September 28th, from 6-7:30 PM at the Missoula Public Library for our Planting Resilience Workshop! Come learn about local green infrastructure projects and how you can help make our community more climate resilient through your own green infrastructure projects in your backyard or balcony. Participants will get to make their own personal terrariums / succulent gardens to take home.

This event is co-hosted by Climate Smart Missoula, Missoula Public Library, and Missoula County Department of Ecology & Extension's Home Upgrade Hub.

Mark your calendars for next Monday, 9/28 at noon, for a fantastic lunch-hour Climate Solutions Week event at the Montana Natural History Center. MNHC staff will take us on a tour of their native gardens, followed by a seed ball workshop. Participants will get to create and take home their own native seed bombs! We hope you join us to get your hands dirty and learn about gardening & climate resilience.

This Thursday!

Join us for a unique arboretum tour Thursday, September 24th at 5:00 PM.

This month’s tour will focus on trees native to Asia. We’ll begin the tour with a walk to look at some of the State of Montana Arboretum’s coolest trees.

For the second half of the tour UM student Jessalyn Crichton will lead us in a session of Qigong (pronounced “chee-gong”). Qigong is a Chinese practice that utilizes slow physical movements, focused meditation, and controlled breathing to improve health and balance energy.

Meet at the Root, between the Oval & the UC. Parking is free after 5PM!

Calling all tree huggers! We’re looking for volunteers to help us plant neighborhood trees on Tuesday, October 6th (Westside) and Wednesday, October 7th (Franklin to the Fort). We’ll start at 10:00 AM each day and go until early to mid-afternoon. Join us for some or all of the time.

Tomorrow!! Don't miss out on Dr. LaPier's Ethnobotany of Trees tour at the State of Montana Arboretum. Meet at 5:30 PM at The Root (west side of the University Center on UM campus).

Renowned Ethnobotanist, writer, and historian Rosalyn LaPier will introduce us to some of the trees found throughout the arboretum and their myriad of traditional and Indigenous uses.

This is going to be a good one. :) This tour is free and open to the public. Hope to see you there!
