Hi gardeners, just a quick note to let you know that this weekend, Friday, Saturday, it looks like some cold nights with possible frost. Brassicas, collards, cabbage, kale, they love a bit of a chill but if you still have tomatoes, beans, peppers, you are waiting on harvesting, they will be damaged from a frost.

10/12/26 Our gardening season is coming to a close. I hope you all got some good produce for your families. Please remember to clean out your plots and put all compostable refuse in the compost bins. Please let me know if you plan on having your plots for next year. Please also let me know if you know of anyone who would be willing to take on the garden manager position. I am recommending to the board to reserve 2 full raised beds for free picking then put fencing around all the other plots.

It is the last day of September 2026. I hope you all got some good produce from your plots and enjoyed gardening with us. Remember that we need to have our plots cleaned out by Mid-October. Please let me know if you plan on gardening and having your plots again next year and I will note that.

Hi gardeners, I thought I would share some links with information on saving produce. Also, check out your local library and even community centers are offering classes.

Check out the U of MN Extension website for lots of information on gardening and saving produce. They offer classes including Master Gardener class which I highly recommend.

Minnesota Green, the program we get our seeds and some free plants through in the spring, has great information on gardening.

MN Historical Society, which is in charge of the Oliver Kelley Farm, and other places, has classes in the summer and autumn on canning, seed preservation, and other interesting things.

9/2/26, The sun sets at 8 pm now! How did that happen? Despite the thefts we have had in our community garden, I think most gardeners have gotten some good produce for their families. Having the free produce bin in the center, and the extra plot just for free picking may have helped some and I feel there is room for improvement for next year. Please keep your plots harvested and if you have extra produce, please put in the bin. Let's have a great September.

8/12/26. our Lind Community Garden is absolutely thriving! Our gardeners are getting some really good produce out of their plots. We are also getting a lot of theft which is really frustrating. Please make sure you are picking your plots often as things are really ripening fast in this heat.

Hi gardeners, we can start thinking of a second crop of several vegetables about now. We have around 70 or so days still, beets, beans, turnips, collards, chard, carrots, can all be seeded now. As current plants are done, clean them out, dig up soil and put down seed. I would wait until mid Aug for Lettuce and spinach radishes or boc choi as they tend to bolt in this heat . We have been having more thefts than I remember which is heartbreaking, check your plots often, harvest often.

We’re almost through this heat spell, the gardens are flourishing as are the weeds! I’m going to be at the garden tomorrow morning, if you haven’t been able to be there and water, let me know and I’ll water your plots. Please go and check for ripe produce. I’m seeing beans, lots of collards, kale. Also I’m broken hearted already as someone has stolen 2 unripe heirloom tomatoes from my plot. I’m going to put extra fencing up, not sure if it’ll help. Bloody thieves. 😖
