WEEKLY UPDATE FOR MINNEAPOLIS 2026/114824793

Construction:

Crew will be finished with pipe installation on Queen Ave N and Russell Ave N
Starting next week, crew will begin main installs on 5th Ave N between Oliver Ln and Sheridan Ave N

Restoration:

Restoration has been sent to contractor for Queen Ave N and Russell Ave N while leaving some areas unrestored so service crew can complete their work when they arrive onsite.

Shout-out to Hailey Torborg at CenterPoint for prioritizing our neighborhood and providing these detailed weekly updates. This level of ongoing, neighborhood-specific information hasn’t typically been provided to communities during past projects, and it has made a huge difference in helping residents, businesses, an emergency services know what to expect and plan ahead.

Construction:

Crews will begin main installation work on Queen Ave N between 4th Ave N and S Frontage Rd.

There will be a full road closure on 4th Ave N between Queen Ave N and Penn Ave N, while continuing to maintain access for local residents.

Once work on Queen Ave N is complete, crews will begin main installations on 5th Ave N between Oliver Ln and Sheridan Ave N.

Restoration:

Restoration work for 4th Ave N has been sent to the contractor. Some areas will remain temporarily unrestored so the service crew can complete its work once they arrive on site.

*Contact numbers for Inspector and Foreman are available, however I am checking with CenterPoint to see how they want to relay this information, as it involves sensitive contact info.

Amazing update on Centerpoint Gas Line Repair and Collaboration With Community.

CenterPoint has committed to:
"-Prioritizing access for emergency responders at all times.
-Maintaining access to businesses in and near construction areas.
-Maintaining local access to homes.
-Providing HNA and email subscribers with weekly construction updates.
-Having field inspectors meet directly with businesses before work begins on their block so they know what to expect."

Additionally, they provided a more specific update on the phases of work

"Upcoming work:
August 24: Work is expected to begin on 4th Ave N between Russell Ave N and Knox Ave N. Main installation is expected to take about one week, followed by crews completing service work at individual homes. Because this section has relatively few commercial properties, CenterPoint has said crews will coordinate directly with businesses before moving into more commercial areas.

Next: 5th Ave N between Oliver Ave N and Sheridan Ave N.

After that: 5th Ave N between Newton Ave N and Knox Ave N.

Thank you to everyone who shared concerns and helped identify what residents, businesses, and emergency responders need during construction. We’ll continue working with CenterPoint and sharing updates as the project moves through Harrison. Since learning about the upcoming gas line repair work in Harrison, HNA staff have been in constant contact with Centerpoint, while also working with residents, businesses, and neighborhood stakeholders, including our wonderful firefighters at Fire Station #16, to identify the construction impacts that matter most and find ways to reduce disruptions.
We’re happy to report that those conversations have been successful, and CenterPoint Energy has made new commitments to the neighborhood, which we are grateful for.

We’re especially grateful to their Operations Communications Specialist for being responsive and willing to work with us, and for these new promises from Centerpoint, which we hope will alleviate much of the stress and anxiety that comes with big projects like this.

CenterPoint will be ​​​​​beginning Natural Gas Line Upgrades in the Harrison Neighborhood for at least 14 weeks, beginning August 24, 2026. We understand the impact that construction and infrastructure upgrades have on businesses and residents, and have asked Centerpoint to be as specific as possible regarding which streets will be closed when, etc.. Please feel free to express any concerns you may have in the comments section—we are happy to relay them to Centerpoint.
