With heavy hearts, we honor the life and legacy of a Twin Cities YP OG; our former Personal and Professional Development Chair, Candice Ellis Coach Candice E 🤎

A visionary leader, community builder, and woman of great impact. Her presence will be deeply missed, and her legacy will live on in every life she touched.

In her honor: Take the photos. Book the trip. Do the things that bring you joy in the midst of the chaos of life.

Rest Well, Coach Candice!

As young professionals in Minneapolis and Saint Paul who live, work, learn, and serve here — We have seen and felt the impact of gun violence on our communities.

We are reflecting on the recent shooting at Annunciation Church and School in Minneapolis, and also on the shootings that claimed the lives of Speaker Emeritus Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark in their home; tragic murders of Stageina Whiting, Amarie Alowonle, Amir Atkins and the countless other lives in our community that have been taken or forever changed by gun violence this summer. From our youngest to our elders — in schools, churches, parks, grocery stores, hospitals, and on our very streets — no space feels untouched. Our neighbors, our families, and our futures are all impacted.

We know this issue stretches far past our local area, and ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Gun violence is a public health crisis — and it is unacceptable that accessing what harms us remains easier than accessing what heals us.

We urge our peers and neighbors to take action alongside groups already leading in this work, including Students Demand Action and Moms Demand Action. Support their organizing, attend their events, amplify their demands, and stand with them in calling for policies that prioritize safety, accountability, and healing and choosing our lives over guns. Change will not come unless we demand it together.

Today marks five years since George Floyd was murdered by Derek Chauvin here in Minneapolis.
As harmful attacks to racial justice and civil rights persist, we must remain united and determined.

We take a moment today to honor George Floyd and reaffirm our dedication to making justice and equity a reality.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s powerful words, “If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl. But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward,” reminds us that progress, no matter how small, is still progress. This quote speaks to resilience and determination in the face of challenges. Whether our steps are big or small, what matters most is the commitment to keep striving, growing, and believing in a better tomorrow. Let’s honor Dr. King’s legacy by advancing justice, equity, and love for all.
