Today is National Women Veterans Recognition Day

To recognize the day, we're taking a moment to celebrate Deb Perkins, a U.S. Army veteran and American Red Cross volunteer. Also, be sure to reach out to the women who served in your own life to thank and celebrate them!

📢 Minnesota severe thunderstorm response update 📢

Early Wednesday morning, the City of Hoffman, Minnesota, suffered severe storm damage, including downed trees and power lines, resulting in damaged homes, no power, and a train derailment.

Thanks to the Grant County Sheriff's Office - MN for reaching out to the Red Cross for support. Six Red Cross workers conducted a damage assessment and continue to distribute emergency supplies, water, and snacks to community members out of the Hoffman City Hall.

Despite the damage and lack of power, Hoffman residents were in good spirits and appreciated the water and supplies. We were able to connect with residents and hear their stories regarding the storm and how they were feeling. We saw neighbors helping each other and children playing, showing that there is no shortage of kindness in the Hoffman community. 💕

Someone can go into cardiac arrest at home, at work, at practice, at the lake or in the grocery store.

Most of us hope we’ll never be the person standing nearby when it happens. But if we are, knowing what to do can matter.

As we wrap up CPR + AED Awareness Week, take a few minutes to look at Red Cross training options and consider getting trained.

When an emergency strikes, do you know what to do? Now 400+ Lakeville elementary school students do!

Last Friday, Red Crossers David Cheesebrow, Morgan Sommers and Lindsey Heald presented Prepare With Pedro to the K–3 students at JFK Elementary. Pedro the Penguin is a Red Cross character who along with his friends loves to learn how to be prepared and take action during different types of emergencies. It is CPR & AED Awareness Week, a critical reminder that learning these skills empowers anyone to be the difference between life and death. Most cardiac arrests occur in settings where immediate medical help is unavailable.
Every second counts when someone experiences sudden cardiac arrest. Visit redcross.org/take-a-class to learn what to do.
