Our Streets

Our Streets Our Streets works for a city where biking, walking, and rolling are easy and comfortable for everyone.

We envision a city where:

- Biking, walking, and rolling are easy and joyful for people of all backgrounds and identities in all parts of Minneapolis;

- Streets and trails are vibrant community spaces with people walking and biking year-round;

- Kids and families feel safe and comfortable walking and biking to neighborhood schools, parks, and businesses;

- Older adults and people with mobi

lity challenges are healthy, independent, and connected with their communities through streets and sidewalks designed for them; and

- Abundant biking and walking contributes to happy people, a healthy - environment, and a strong economy. We were founded as the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition by a passionate group of local folks in December 2009.

Be a part of the car-free fun. Artists, food vendors, musicians, organizations, and local businesses are key to Open Streets Minneapolis.

Mark your calendar and join us in a celebration of community, where we’re closing Lyndale Ave S to car traffic, allowing people to walk, bike, roll, and connect with their neighbors and local businesses. Together, we’ll experience the street as a place to explore, play, and dream.

Help make our comeback a success and participate as a vendor at Open Streets Lyndale with the link in our bio.

Last month Our Streets organized and hosted "Can We Talk? A panel, dinner, and community discussion about the past, present, and future of I-94". Our panelists share why they feel hasn't done enough to take steps towards repair in addressing the past and ongoing harms of I-94.

As the federal government continues to strip our communities of guardrails in place to protect them, we need more time to make sure those most impacted by this project are meaningfully reflected in the decision made on Rethinking I-94. Community advocates, residents, and elected officials are urging MnDOT to pause the project.

We know this is an ongoing conversation in Rondo and throughout the neighborhoods along the corridor. We're grateful to have been in community, to have shared a meal, listened to your stories and lived experiences, and to continue having open dialogue on the tangible ways to address the harms of the highway and reimagine a future for the neighborhood and corridor.
