What a joy to celebrate our stellar PFund Scholars, Alumni, and donors during our 2026 Scholar Reception at the Bell Museum ()! If your heart is ever feeling heavy, we genuinely recommend yapping with a room of multigenerational LGBTQ+ folks. Even better if you can go to space with them for a little bit!

This closes our Back-to-School specials! We're wishing all of our PFund Scholars the absolute best as they continue their studies this year. Can't wait to see y'all keep doing amazing things. 💗

Meet Nancy and Becky. For thirty years they have been supporting the academic dreams of LGBTQ+ students from rural communities in Minnesota. One of the main reasons PFund Foundation has a scholarship program is become Nancy was a PFund Board member while also supporting the GLBT Scholarship Fund and suggest it be administered by our community's foundation.

Every year their endowed fund, The Mahahan-Bohan Rural Le***an Scholarship, is awarded to a young person from a rural area.

"It is a way of paying forward the incredible opportunities we have had. It is also a sense of helping someone in the rural area. We both come from a small town in Madelia MN, and we know what it's like to be isolated and we wanted to reach out and make sure the funds go to someone in the rural area." - Becky

"In a sense we are also paying it backward – understanding, when we were in high school or college what it would have meant to us to have some older lesbians—a couple—that could afford to endow a scholarship for someone just like us, a rural isolated person, probably lonely, probably just dying for support in their life’s dreams." - Nancy

✨ MEET MCKENZIE! ✨

One of the things we constantly hear from our community is how important it is to have culturally-competent medical and mental health workers. 2026 PFund Scholar, McKenzie M. is on a mission to meet that need! Her passion for healthcare is palpable:

"I am majoring in Psychology, on a Pre-med track, and I officially declared a minor in Race, Gender, Sexuality, and Class Studies! My goal is to go to med school after I get my undergraduate degree and become a child psychiatrist. I want to be able to hold my own practice, where any child is welcome and should feel safe. I want LGBTQ+ kids to feel safe in my care and know that I want to help them to the best of my abilities. I want to be the person that I wish I had when I was younger, so I want to be able to embody that. Moreover, receiving this scholarship greatly impacts me, as it helps relieve final stress for the next semester. Which I am forever grateful for. Next semester, I am taking significantly harder classes, such as Chemistry 104 and Anatomy and Physiology I. This financial relief will allow me to focus primarily on my classes rather than working. Thank you again!"

Angie and Annie at Aberdeen Area Pride were considering ways to support their South Dakota LGBTQ+ community when the opportunity arrived to start the Aberdeen Area Pride Scholarship.

"Supporting our LGBTQ+ students and their success isn’t a fad guided by today’s headlines. While Pride is most visible in the month of June, our commitment to the future of our community is year-round and for years to come." We couldn't agree more! Starting a PFund Scholarship is just one way AAP is showing their beloved community that they're invested (literally) in their futures.

Today's PFund Scholar is a trailblazer...we'll deeeeefinitely be keeping an eye out for Jasmine's name on the bestseller's list in a few years! When asked what she'd like to say to her future readers (aka, all of us at PFund and the donors who made her scholarship possible):

"I am so thankful for y'all's generosity and investment in LGBTQIA+ education. With this scholarship, I am able to focus on my studies with a lessened financial burden on my back. I am the only Black student in my Master of Fine Arts program, and one of few POC LGBTQ+ students. I am currently pursuing my degree to learn how to use my artistic practice to create meaningful work and organize community-focused art programs so that, one day, LGBTQIA+ youth from all backgrounds can feel empowered to pursue their creative dreams. Thank you so much for helping me achieve my goals."
