When Trump doubles down on his dishonest and misleading statements about the renovation of the Reflecting Pool, it reveals deeper issues with his approach to governance, showing an inability to solve much larger issues like the Iran War and the burgeoning climate emergency.

It can also serve as an important lesson on what NOT to do when trying to build trust to enact badly-needed changes in the world. By telling the truth, we CAN co-create a world of sustainability, health, equity and kindness.

In addition to the culture wars, party wars, and uncivil wars — not to mention the very real war Donald Trump has begun — the US, as well as countries from South Korea to Türkiye, are renewing the gender wars.

People like Trump, Hegseth and Kavanaugh hold the highest positions of power, enact policy, and have their rapes excused and their comments against women either dismissed as a joke or celebrated.

The gender wars are yet another area where isolationist ideals and group entrenchment cause harm, yet another reason to view ourselves as a collective, as humankind.

Meet the male Steller's eider — one of 229 bird species that need us right now.

Nearly half of all U.S. bird species have declined by 50%+ in the last 50 years. But conservation works — cities that invest in habitat are already bringing migratory birds back.

Add your name to protect the places birds like this one depend on: sign Audubon's petition for the Local Communities & Bird Habitat Stewardship Act.

Isn’t expressing joy an amazing way to connect with others in our efforts to overcome the divisiveness and “uncivil wars” which plague us during these dark days?

Poet, essayist and professor Ross Gay talks about the transformational power of joy in his book titled, aptly enough, Inciting Joy.

"My hunch is that joy, emerging from our common sorrow…might draw us together. It might depolarize us and de-atomize us enough that we can consider what, in common, we love. And though attending to what we hate in common is too often all the rage (and it happens also to be very big business), noticing what we love in common, and studying that, might help us survive. It’s why I think of joy, which gets us to love, as being a practice of survival."

August is prime time for a second (or first!) planting of cool season vegetables like leafy greens.

You can grow many cool season "spring" vegetables in fall, and even keep some of them growing all winter long with a cold frame.

Leafy greens are some of the easiest to grow and super healthy to boot.

The story of the Anywaa is not only about one people’s survival — it is also a mirror for the rest of us. In a world that too often fears difference, diminishes culture, or tries to erase what it does not understand, the Anywaa remind us that our differences are not threats to overcome, but gifts to honor.

If their story asks anything of us, it is this: begin where you are. Celebrate the cultures around you. Teach your children to respect what is different. Listen before judging. Speak up when others are excluded or diminished. Support efforts that keep language, art, and heritage alive.

Last month, Donald Trump claimed (falsely) two national monuments in Utah — Bears Wars and Grand Staircase-Escalante —were inaccessible to ordinary people, and reduced their combined size from 3.2 million acres to just over 300,000.

Our guess as to why he targeted them? Their protected status is an Obama-era designation.

“They took the land from the people quite honestly. We’re giving it back”, said Trump "You can't go hunting, you can't go fishing, you can't do anything. You can virtually not even walk on it."

The NYT found this to be a blatant falsehood. He had been briefed weeks earlier about their variety of recreational trails and even access for off-road vehicles.

Davina Smith-Idjesa, a tribal leader in the area said, “From a Navajo perspective, Bears Ears is not simply a piece of federal public land. This is a living cultural site that holds our histories, our ceremonies, our traditional foods and medicines and our ancestors’ footprints.”

Grizzly bears need our help.

The Trump administration is proposing to hand over management of grizzly bears to states hostile to their existence. This would make it easier for Northern Rockies states to relocate or kill grizzly bears.

While grizzly bears will technically keep their Endangered Species Act (ESA) listing for now, the Trump administration’s proposal functions as a backdoor delisting.

There is a comment period open until August 17, and we need your voice. Join the Alliance in sending Earthjustice’s letter to the US Fish and Wildlife Service urging them to keep grizzlies protected. Earthjustice

BREAKING from Beyond Pesticides:
Urge Support for Amendments Striking Harmful Farm Bill Provisions!
New Developments Require Action—AG Committee Votes Thursday, August 6!

Help mobilize opposition to the Senate Republican Farm Bill draft with the support for and amendments in advance of the Farm Bill vote in the Senate Agriculture Committee, now scheduled for Thursday, August 6!

This GOP Farm Bill is a shameful piece of legislation that undercuts basic health and environmental protections, invests in chemical-intensive agriculture that has documented adverse effects for our families' health, weakens organic standards and public trust in the USDA organic label, and fails to make the investments necessary to a livable future.

(D-NJ) is introducing amendments in the Agriculture Committee that seek to strip some of the damaging provisions out of the bill. It is vital to urge all U.S. Senate Democrats of the Agriculture Committee to push for these amendments on Thursday since they address some of the most critical issues!

Tell your U.S. Senators to support amendments to the GOP Farm Bill either as a member of the Agriculture Committee or as an advocate with their colleagues on the committee!

The message calls to support:

Senator Booker's first amendment to strike sections that undermine foundation principles in existing law to test and regulate toxic pesticides, including sections 10201, 10203, 10207, and 10209.

Senator Booker's second amendment to reinstate the long-standing warning responsibility of pesticide manufacturers to alert product users of potential harm, even when not required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In June, the Supreme Court defied historical jurisprudence by taking away this chemical company responsibility in .
