Math Corps is a high-impact tutoring program that helps K-8 students build strong math skills.

By combining the people power of AmeriCorps with cutting-edge math research, Math Corps helps make sure every student has a chance to succeed. Math Corps is an Ampact educational program that is fueled by research from the National Science + Service Collaborative. As a national organization, Ampact demonstrates the power of national service to solve complex social problems by creating innovative programs that focus on the key areas of education, environmental stewardship, and healthy futures for communities

During the 2025-26 school year, 337 K-3 students in Poughkeepsie City School District received high-impact Math Corps tutoring! Thanks to our committed team of Math Tutors, who provide targeted support to students in need of an extra boost in math, 96% of students demonstrated measurable growth!

George has spent the past four years helping elementary students build skills and confidence through Math Corps. Calling it his "encore career" after spending 30 years in business roles, he's proud to serve his community in a new way!

With his support, students have made significant progress in math. George recalls one student who went from being withdrawn during their sessions to fully engaged, showing growth in key skills like multiplication facts.

We are so grateful to George for spending countless sessions helping students gain the fluency and confidence needed to be strong in math. Thank you for serving, George!

Located in Albany, Georgia, Sherwood Acres Elementary has been a Math Corps partner since our launch in the state in 2018. Local tutors support students across kindergarten through fifth grade as they work through math problems and find solutions.

We're excited to have two new tutors, Brenda and Bertha, join the team this school year! We also welcome back returning tutor Greg, whose experience as a Math Tutor is helping him prepare to be a middle school math teacher. Greg reflects on the pride he has watching his students succeed, sharing, "By the end of our sessions, they were not only solving problems more independently but also showing pride in their work."

With the support of a Math Tutor and daily skill-building practice, students are making impressive academic progress. Not only does this set children up for success in the later years — it positively impacts their confidence and attitudes towards math.

"I had a student who received a low score on their first benchmark assessment with me at the beginning of the year," recalls Math Tutor Nessa. "Once the student retested in the middle of the year, they saw an increase by over 20%! The way the student's smile was beaming made me so proud of how hard they worked and what they accomplished."

Today we are celebrating Vang! With a background in accounting and aspirations to go into finance, he joined Math Corps for a change of pace while he pursues his future career goals.

Vang says he feels great knowing he's a mentor to the students he serves. He loves seeing his students grasp new math concepts and make quicker progress as the months go by. "We, as the tutors, are going to be the mentors they never forget," says Vang.

We're so excited to have Vang back as a tutor this school year, where he will continue his work with students in Fresno, California. Thank you for your dedication to students as they make strides with their math skills, Vang!

Through Reading Corps & Math Corps, and the University of Minnesota’s Grow Your Own Teacher program (MNGOT), you can earn your master’s in education and complete your student teaching while getting paid! As part of this unique, two-year pathway, participants qualify for up to approximately $10K for tuition, plus scholarships.
